Russian coins.......

I would like both your opinions and suggestions on these coins. Anything insight?

Is that St. George killing the dragon? I thought he was an English hero? BTW, cool coins I like the wolves...

So I take it you're wondering if they're too good to be true?

I dunno, I've never moved past the drooling stage with these big slabs of copper. They do look awfully sharp for the types though.. perhaps novodels (legit restrikes)? I really don't know, but look forward to others' comments. image

I collect Siberian coins, in fact I completed a type set of them a couple of years ago. The main issue I can see with this piece is the lines in the cipher, looks like they were sloppily engraved. In contrast, on the known authentic piece the edge milling is usually a bit cruder than on this piece. It is suspect, but I cannot quantitatively condemn it to counterfeit though.

This piece is immediately suspect as a modern "tribute" or whatever it is politically correct to refer to them as. The edge milling is too clear, and the elements of the design are incomplete and look rather cartoonish.

As I have found out from my living in Ukraine, these things are all over the place now, I recently bought a couple of Moldavia-Wallachia paras in the coin bazaar here for about $10. At least the seller knew they were fake, and told me so.
