If it's true, putting the whole "arsehole" thing aside... how dynamic an offense would they have with vick and don on the field at the same time? vick might catch it, run it or throw it at any time.... depends if vick can catch... remember how the steelers would use randle el sometimes? interesting. other than that, he's a better short term backup for a team with a small window than kolb.
  • Sources: Vick, Eagles agree on contract

The Michael Vick wait is over.

Sources told FOXSports.com that the quarterback has reached a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, with a one-year option.

Vick will make $1.6 million for the first year of the deal. The Eagles have an option on the second year for $5.2 million.

The deal was reached Tuesday, but wasn't finalized until Thursday.

Several head coaches have told FOXSports.com that they would love to have signed Vick but were unable to because of trepidation on the part of their owners.

Vick makes sense for the Eagles as a second QB option if Donovan McNabb goes down with an injury.

Vick has not played in the NFL since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons star was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, and was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison. He also was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick's suspension on July 27, allowing him to sign with a team.

Lots of Eagles fans are into dog fighting makes sense he signs with them.
It was always going to be Oakland or the Eagles, because most of both of them
teams fans are gang banging thugs he will fit right in.

    Good luck Vick

I can just see Andy Reid and Vick, in some back alley somehere, Reid pulls a poodle out of his jacket and throws it on the ground.

"ok Vick, chase the poodle, we gotta get your speed back, greasy lightning speed.

I'm flabbergasted to say the least. I sorta knew and said as time went on that Kevin Kolb was a stiff and unfortunately this basically proves it - Kolb is third string material, second string at best, and unfortunately Reid must know that the Eagles can't win with a championship with Kolb as a starter.

Eagles haters will likely be in full bloom now and I wouldn't blame them. I don't like the signing one bit, not one bit. image

Just occurred to me...I wonder if this has anything to do with his two sons being in trouble with the law, and serving prison time, sorta Reid's way of showing his sons that anything can be forgiven, as well as the possibility that Vick could help the team win games.

I'm guess I'm playing 2-bit psychiatrist trying to figure out the mind of Andy Reid, but this signing baffles me.

  • I believe that the NFL made a mistake. One team may be helped by Vick, but the already semi rancid image of the league will be further tarnished. Not worth it for a questionable talent at this time.

I must admit - that is funny.
  • Cant wait to watch him again, he was a headache for defenses, and still can be. He was VERY humble at the interview this morning, good luck to him. Philly fans will support him, watch...

yea...I'll support him "on the field"...I admit it...I won't like him, but I support every player out there in an Eagles uniform. and I admit...if Vick helps my team win...I will like it.

    Off the field? No.

The more I analyze this signing, the more I like it - one benefit is that it should help keep McNabb fresher, hopefully off the injury list, if Vick can come in for around ten or so plays a game, and always the threat of a wildcat formation which with the Eagles speed with Vick at quarterback and their fast wide receivers, will be quite difficult for defenses to stop.

I see a Super Bowl this season for the Eagles.

Yet another reason why Philly fans have no clue (after all what's a dog murderer--these are the same fans who booed Santa Claus and cheered when Michael Irvin was unconscious laying on the field) and no chance to win a Super Bowl...have they even won even one yet? It's been like 50 years since they've been holding this event called the Super Bowl so I figured that seeing there's only like 30 teams in the league and the Iggles have been around since the year of the flood that they must have at least one Super Bowl by now, right?? LOL!!

Im curious what kind of "football shape" he is in, Im assuming he will get some running plays and get in there to help the offense somehow but McNabb is the starter so who knows how much he will even play.

As disgusted as I am of what he did, I think he deserves a second chance- he paid his dues. I sincerly would have been ok with him signing with the Pats, he might bring some good things to the table especially that he is not going to be in a position where he needs to win games by throwing the football.

  • While I am not happy with the Eagles decision to sign Vick, I see this as the latest in a long running issue not only for the NFL but most major professional sports leagues. In a bow to the dollar we have been asked to lower our standards and accept a corporate value system that maximizes revenue. I would be interested in seeing the strategic planning documents for these leagues and what those documents have to say about core values.

While some may say that Vick and others have paid their dues by doing prison time I think that the public at large view this not as punishment that should run concurrently. Most view this in an "everyman" manner and understand that we would not benefit in the same way. We would probably have to work in some decreased position if we could even obtain employment in the same field immediately. Many who are in licensed or certified professions may never regain the same status.

Are we entitled to express our values in this situation? Are we entitled to expect the same values from the leagues? I believe that we are. I believe that we are being asked to accept a lower standard of conduct based on the perception of the leagues, unions and teams.

We have one vote and that comes from the wallet. Don't buy tickets or merchandise. Don't frequent league, union or team sponsors. Use your emotional involvement to act in a rational manner and act accordingly. This is an emotionally charged issue but protesting and talking do nothing. The leagues certainly know that the talk will die down. PR crisis management firms have surely been hired to handle the issues. Only money will talk. They care about nothing else.

I'll be an Eagle fan this year as always. I will not buy merchandise. I will not buy tickets. I may even try to avoid the sponsors. When they win I will celebrate but not feel as good this year than in others. The team should have taken the high road rather than follow the dollar and accept the determination of the league and union.

Of course nobody is gonna condone what he did to the dogs, and perhaps Grote15 and others may always refer to him as a "dog murderer" ...but he paid his debt to society, served I think it was two years in prison, and he's working with the humane society to promote awareness against dog fighting and other forms of animal abuse.

Me personally, I always basically separated player's personal lives from their sports lives...I take sports as great entertainment and nothing more, and I would be very "entertained" if my Eagles would win a Super Bowl.

Yes, Vick will need to get back in football shape...and since he has played football his whole life, considering his age he's not that old, my guess is in around 3 - 4 weeks he'll be back in football shape give or take a bit - he does seem to have the desire and motivation, and that's half the battle.
