I'm a dumb*ss

Almost sliced my finger off this evening cracking a PSA slab

What's the best way to do this without drawing blood?

Get a flat-head screw driver, and just work it into the seems down the sides and turn it as you go.

had the best success just gently running a blade back and forth over the top seam of the holder to break down the adhesive......once you can create a gap, the rest is easy, just slowly pull it apart or continue lightly running that blade over the side seams until the thing just pops loose....kinda takes time, but it works for me.

Nip the corner off with wire cutters or something similar. Insert flat head screwdriver and pry around the seal. It comes apart very easy.

Or, you can just twist them a little and they will come apart. Some slabs are not sealed as good as others.

This is by no means the only method, just my method and its one I'm comfortable with. DISCLAIMER: This is offered for entertainment purposes only, and I'm not responsible if you choose to try this and screw up your card. image

There's no adhesive. They're sonically sealed like blister packaging, tubes of toothpaste and thousands of other plastic items.

I typically use this method as well, but it seems with some slabs, it is impossible with this method, so the corner cut is my second choice

Don't feel too bad. I'm not allowed to have sharp objects myself since I cut the corner of my index finger off with a NEW steak knife trying to trim the top of a Christmas Tree. Yep, pretty stupid. But hey it was the first Christmas I spent with my wife who was my girlfriend at the time so actually she must be dumber then me because she married me anyway.
  • I put the holdered card in a vise w/ wood blocks so that just the label end of the holder shows. Take a hack saw and notch the corner. Remove from vise. Use a putty knife (by pushing down with a slight twist, away from your body) to separate the slab. By starting on the label end of the holder you can crack the case and preserve the card.

Be careful not to splinter the plastic if you decide to use the pliers method of breaking the corner. You could lose your sight if the shard catches you in the eye.

I have actually had quite a bit of luck using a fingernail file and run along the top seam until it wedges in. Then it comes apart easily.

Why would anyone ever want to undo PSA's glorious work?

I cut the corner with good wire cutters and crack with a screwdriver. I cracked one of the thick card holders the other day, now that it a whole different animal. Those holders are so horrible, why couldn't they have just copied BGS?

I just cracked a GEM holder the other day. It took me almost 30 minutes to crack that thing. To bad they don't take as much time in grading their cards as they do making their slabs.
