Dan Holmes Auction - How much for the hammer?

I just added up the Goldberg Sale estimates (Larry, Ira, Chris, Bob, all??) was just under 6.9 million
What do you think it will hammer at? or how much is the "and-UP"

My guess -- 8.75 million

There are just over 100 coins estimated under a grand, 16 at 100 grand or more

  • Jack, I was wondering the same? The market is somewhat soft, but for this copper how high will they reach. I think the one current area where the price is still up is here. I'll go 7.8MM.

  • The Holmes Sale has quite a bit going for it despite the economy. IMO even more than the Husak sale. The Holmes Sale offers 571 lots including Sheldon's color set, all the NCs and incredible die states are included....... even some Husak sale coins. The Husak collection included 301 lots with no NCs or multiple die state examples. Holmes has continued to upgrade and add to his collection and the overall breadth. depth, and quality IMO certainly equals or exceeds Husak's. Great provenance, lots of high CCs, and many "one of a-kinds" and "once-in-a-lifetimes" here. I think that they'll be much greater interest, and as much enthusiasm in this collection as Husak's. On equal footing, if Holmes can capture some high numbers in the '93s 94s and 96s, I would expect it give Husak's results a run for the money or even top them. Husak hit the market with perfect timing. The economy, dealer cash positions, financing could all factor Holmes' results, but my money is on the high side.

There's much anticipated interest in this Sale, and I personally can't wait to be right there in the midst of all the action !!.

Love the early copper. Just wish I could afford them.

This sale should tell us about the health of the Large Cent market. Any idea how high the reserves, if any, are set?

The EAC world seems to be in a frenzy over this sale. I expect prices to be strong.

I am interested in seeing the "lesser" pieces that come on the market once the sale is over as people upgrade their coins.

I'm sure you could get at least $1K-2K for the hammer.
