Hi From CardPricer.com (Online Price Guide Site)
Hello Everyone,
Many of you around here do not know me or my company very well. My name is Ted Golden, and I am the CEO here at CardPricer.com. You may have seen me posting here from time to time under the name “blacksoxfan.” I am a long time participant in the hobby and CardPricer has been around since early 2006. CardPricer.com is an online sports card price guide that relies on transaction based valuations.
After running into a number regular posters at the recent National, we thought it might be a good idea to tell those of you who weren’t able to make the show about the goings-on here.
Currently, we are focused exclusively on baseball cards and have recently had a major update to our services. Last week, we introduced our new pricing engine. What this means to you is that we now publish a much larger number of sets and singles than ever before. We now offer pricing for roughly 185,000 baseball cards across 5,300 sets. A number of the pre-war sets you ladies and gentleman collect are included as well as modern cards (up to 2009). The number of published transactions now totals approximately 6.4 million sales. Additionally, each of those 5300 sets will update daily. That is, if there are new transactions that take place in the market, they will be posted to the website.
Over the next week or so, we will be pushing out more data from our back log. In addition to filling in more sales from eBay, we will include sales results from most, if not all, of the auction sites that you frequent.
We are currently integrating a number of new features into the site. One of those features is a new interface. In the meantime, we hope that you find the risk free 2-week trial and $8.99 monthly membership fee to be reasonable. We invite all of you to come and check out the site. If any member of Net54 has already used your free two-week trial, please contact us and we will provide you with another two-weeks.
To facilitate the communication process, we have built in some feedback tools to allow you to communicate with us directly. If you find any misidentified sales, any missing transactions, any incorrectly cataloged material, or if you have a set you would like to see published, you can tell us through the site. While the engine is firmly in place, it will continue to improve over time.
Any one of our customer service representatives will be more than happy to assist you in whatever you need. However, should you want to speak with me directly, I can be reached at blacksoxfan a.t. cardpricer.com. We will do our best to monitor this thread; however, please keep in mind that the best way to get in touch with us is through our website.
Warmest Regards,
Ted Golden

Yes, every paid membership (monthly or pay-as-you-go) includes a two-week trial. You are not billed until the end of that two weeks. If you cancel before that time, then you are not charged. You can see the subscription options a http://www.cardpricer.com/sign-up.php.

<< <i>Hey Ted, thanks for the post. I've never used your site before, but is it similar to VCP where it actually records actual sale prices, or how are you establishing the prices of the cards?
Thanks >>
Hi,
Yes, our site utilizes online transactions to establish the values that you see.

Do you offer scans of the cards which have been sold as well?
<< <i>Other than modern grading, what do you offer that VCP doesn't? >>
I can't really speak to their service, however, we have more recorded sales than anyone in this industry, by a wide margin. Also, our service is just $8.99/month. As we mentioned, there is a two-week risk free trial with all paid accounts, so you are welcome to sign up. We welcome any feedback you may have.

I'm assuming you only base these values on graded cards? Also, not that I expect you to say anything bad about your competition, but how do you differ from VCP on vintage cards?
Thanks
edit: Never mind the VCP question, I see you answered it while I was typing

<< <i>Thanks for posting the info - good to know! Now that VCP is up to $180 annually for gold membership, I'll be looking for an option when my current membership is up.

My goodness you guys are quick ;-) The answer to your question regarding scans is "yes and no." We started collecting scans a handful of months ago; however, they are not available on the site yet. We are building out a new interface which will allow users to view the scan (in addition to many other things). In the meantime, you can click out to see the page where the transaction took place.

<< <i>Looks pretty good. I would be interested in trying it out a bit but don't really want to commit until I have. You mention a free trial and would love to give that a go but only see it offered with a monthly commitment.
Anyway around that?
thanks and hope the site takes off.

I agree I'd be willing to give it a go but having to sign up and give my cc info I'll have to pass since I always forget to cancel and end up getting billed for a few months till I remember...

I understand completely. If you do sign up, I will be glad to have one of our customer service reps follow up with you a few days before your trial expires. Please email me directly (my address is in the initial post).

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Couldn't you just as easily do this without requiring personal & CC info? Your free 2-week trial offer would have many more takers without the catch.

Most websites that have monthly subscriptions will require some personal info and usually CC info. It's a form of scam prevention for them, if they didn't require some info, you can could just make up info and keep doing the 2 week free trial over and over.
@Bunker: "Does your site only gather auction sales or does it include store sales also?" Again, this is a yes and no sort of answer. We currently collect data from most of the major auction houses in the industry. At this time, that data is not up on the site. We are running it threw our new system, so it should be up "soon," but I don't have a time table for that. We are aware of the desire to see store listings available in the guides and are working on a solution at this time.

Hi Mike,
I do understand your concerns; however, I don't feel that offering a two-week risk free trial is "a catch." It's available to anyone who would like to sign up, and if you cancel before your two-weeks expire, we do not charge your card. If it's a security issue that you are concerned with, you will see in our TOS that we don't release any personal user information to any other institution for any reason (EVER). Further, we rely on Thwate for our SSL and rely on Bank Of America for all of our Merchant Services.
While we do have plans to communicate directly with our large user base (via email), we have yet to do so in our three years of operation. Hopefully, that information will assuage any concerns you may have. Please feel free to contact me via email (provided in the OP) if there is a concern I have not addressed.
