Once again, some clever trial lawyers extort money through the legal system, and we all pay for it.

It's amazing that the parents didn't have to sign some sort of waiver before the season started. My kids are 15 and 12 and as far back as I can remember we had to sign a waiver before the start of every sports season. Even now that my son is playing high school basketball we still are signing waivers just in case something does happen. It's sad that this happens but playing sports can cause injuries....it's part of the game. Now if someone does something like attacking an opposing team player and that results in some sort of injury then I say sue on

Well, in my view, the plaintiff had no chance of winning the case, but the scumbag lawyers throw mountains of paperwork at the defendant, making their legal expenses so high that they almost have to settle to avoid further high expenses - extortion through the legal system.

Can you imagine now, every kid getting injured, their parents suing the league or school - organized sports would basically cease to exist...I mean you could injure a knee playing tennis or just running track...nothing could be offered...possibly no more gym class.

I'm the treasurer for our local Little League.

Let me tell you that essentially the ONLY reason that we are affiliated with Williamsport is the insurance that we receive through them. I believe we sent them approximately 2400.00 for this past season.

Aside from the insurance "LL the entity in Williamsport" in my opinion offers nothing for the kids. They want money for everything and every time you turn around. I could be wrong but I'm under the impression that it has ballooned into nothing but a large bureaucracy and is no longer about the kids when you come right down to it. (sort of like the Boy Scouts)

Hell we had to pay Williamsport 200.00 apparently just for the privilege of having our 2 teams to enter into allstar games in our district here in Ohio. On top of that I had to order and pay for the appropriate patches to place on their unis and we even got stuck paying for umpires for the games.

I am wondering if that money has to go in an account untill he is 18? Or does the mother get to
go on a shopping spree? If someone gave me a 125,000 today I would have it spent by Friday 5:00image

  • If I didn't have a child that has played in Little League for the past 6 years, I would probably ne PO'd just from reading the article.

However, it cost $100 this past season to enter. The $100 is strictly an administration fee and does not pay for uniforms or field maintenance. We have a nice park with 8 fields that were built by Hal Sutton (former PGA pro). The fields stay in horrible shape until the coaches and parents go out and repair the fields on our own time and dime. The LL does nothing to repair the fields.

Then we had to pay another $100 for the All Star tournament. Then another $100 for the AS uniforms. Again, we had to maintain the fields with absolutely no help from the LL association. Plus, all the games were played during the middle of the day in 100+ degree heat because the LL association wouldn't let us use the field at night because of the electricity bill for running the lights at night.

Guess our fees will go up next year for added insurance costs.

and that DOES include your shirt/cap/sox

As a lawyer... I hate hearing about these type of lawsuits. Very sad that people bring these lawsuits and sadder still that our justice system is so f'd up that it's easier to settle then to fight it.
