COMIC BOOKS - Need help.

Do any of you guys know the comic book industry? I have a person looking to sell a card collection, but there are also quite a few comic books as well. Right now he does not want to sell them separately. I have NO IDEA if the comics are worth ANYTHING. Even if I could get $2 each for them it would be worth the purchase.

If anyone has any knowledge, I could scan in a few of the comics (he let me take about a dozen) and PM them to you.

THANKS!

What titles are included in the collection? In general, most comics are not selling well on the bay at all.

Of course if he has the comic equivalent of high grade vintage material, that will be a different story.

I do not believe there are any valuable comics here. They look like they are in good shape (I know nothing about comics). I was just wondering if I could get a couple bucks each for them.

Ironman - A marvel comics event - CIVIL WAR
    Gem Active - Wildstorm #5 - May
Brian Pulido's Medieval LADY DEATH - BellaDonna - Issue #1
Brian Pulido's LADY DEATH - Pirate Queen
Brian Pulido's LADY DEATH - Abandon All Hope
    THE KREEPER - Preview Edition
Tales of the unexpected - The Spectre #7
Tales of the unexpected - The Spectre #4
    Season of the Witch
Sergio Aragones Dia De Los Muertos
    Spawn - July 12
    Spawn - Blood Feud
    DEITY #s 5 and 6
    DEITY Revelations
    Beowulf - #4

All of them are from the past 4 years. The cover prices range from $2.99 - $4.99.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • If they are from the past few years, then they are not worth anything. He may get half the cover price, or maybe even cover price if somebody really needs it and can't find it anywhere else, which I doubt.

I collect 1960's Amazing Spiderman, so if you find any of those give me a PM image

Are the cards not worth the purchase if you cant get anything for the comics. Most modern comics dont sell well. Evaluate the deal as if you could get nothing for the comics bc thats most likely the case.

You would be lucky to get .50 each for them.

    Guys,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. This board is GREAT! The deal probably will not make much sense if the comics are basically worth nothing. I guess I confirmed it for myself as well ... I just spoke to the guy after reading your responses and told him I don't think I'm interested since the comics would be hard to sell ... he told me to keep the ones I have and buy him a couple beers next time I see him! LOL

I'm just curious ... what do they get for these comics in the store when they first come out? I'm guessing nowhere near the cover price.

Look them up in a Wizard. Don't know if it's still around but that was the comic book price guide when I was younger.

If you pre-order from a distibuter you can get them for half price or a bit more. In the store after issue expect to pay full cover. I still have a local comic shop (all card shops closed) and these guys hate to deal. I pay the price when I occassionally buy a few bucks just because I want to continue to see them in business.

K ... thanks for the info ... HOWEVER, I know you can't get near the prices in most card publications, so I didnt think using the prices in a comic guide would be much help either.

I do the same at my local card/comic shop. I'd hate to see the place close down, but I never see any other customers there so I suppose it's inevitable.

I'd just use it as a ball park figure more than anything. Obviously if it says one of the comics is worth $500 you're not gonna let it go for $2. Or you can just look at the completed sales on Ebay to get a rough estimate. Throw a reasonable BIN/BO on it and call it a day.

Yup. Think of it just like a baseball card price guide.

You could always do the "ebay price guide" and look up past auctions to get an idea of their value.

Thanks guys ... I did look at ebay, but only saw a few of the comics that I listed ... Thanks again for all the info.

  • Newer comics don't sell for much these days whether published this month or within the past several years. Vintage comics (from several DECADES ago) however, when graded and slabbed can sell for quite a lot. I guess comic collectors like their things professionally graded just like card collectors! image

You cant lump all newer issues in the "don't" sell category. Some recent issues still sell pretty well like Spiderman #300 raw or graded. The death of Captain America and it's variant cover brings 10 bucks at local shows for me and Fables #1 and it's variant sell awesome graded or ungraded. Also Watchmen comics recently took a huger 300% increase in value.

The problem with comics is that they produce alot of issues and #1's. They do some shorter "Variant" type issues but people get tired of those pretty quickly so in reality the only comics that have any staying power are the ones that have popular stores & characters and the issue itself is pivotal, #1 or ties into a movie.

Think about comics this way, in a regular sports card sets how many commons are there, 95%? Well the same applies to most comics made today, about 95% of them have 0 resell value and are only set fillers and people buy them as such.
