Offical 2009 Kentucky Wildcats quest for a better bowl game

Well folks, we're now just one month away from some FOOTBALL!!! While it's great that we won three straight bowl games, I think it's time we set our sights on an even better bowl game, maybe even a BCS bowl? I will say we're not going to waste anytime finding out if we're worthy of a BCS bid as we have the defending champs coming up in just our third game and always tough Alabama right afterward.

According to Rivals.com, they have us pre-season ranked 42nd. I guess somewhat a respectable ranking but obviously we got our sights set much higher.

I'm also hoping this will finally be the year we get Tennessee, but of course we still got a long way to go to get to that point.

Well, they just released the first AP poll and we go against the #1 and #5 teams in the 3rd and 4th weeks! That will sure be quite a challenge for us, won't it? Surely we can upset at least one of them, can't we?

KU will have a fine team this coming season, and will likely beat Alabama and Florida,

And I'm glad I'm finally getting some responses; I was feeling left out compared to all the other "Offical quests" that typically get over 100 replies at least.

Tomorrow's opening day! Surely we can handle some Miami-Ohio cream puffs, can't we?

Based on our schedule, I think we can realistically get at least eight or maybe nine wins if we try really hard. We just gotta eat our Chunky Soup!

The great Paul "Bear" Bryant, was much more successful at Alabama, than at Kentucky, while coaching football.

It is quite difficult, although not impossible, for a school with average size and resources, to excel at both major college sports.
Basketball is king at UK ( uck ? ), they have a fine and legendary program.

Even coach Brooks knows he plays second fiddle to Calapari and the roundball guys, in Lexington. Despite two key suspensions of FB players, including the starting center, the Wildcats should beat Miami of Ohio, and have a fairly respectable season.

Anyhoo, I'm very pleased to report that Kentucky has properly disposed of Miami-Ohio with the first shutout since 1996! Way to go, Cats! Now we just gotta take care of business against Loserville in a couple of weeks and then we get ready to go for a major upset!

Well folks, I was hoping for a more convincing win to prepare for Florida and Alabama, but a win is a win I suppose. I just hope our boys are working hard and eating their Chunky Soup for our quest for a big upset in the next two weeks!

Then again, Florida only managed a 10 point win against Tennessee so I think we got a good chance!

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhh...............it ain't looking so good, and you got Bama this week. Even though I think Brooks will bring more consistency to the Kentucky program, I am now only seeing you guys beating La.-Monroe, Eastern Kentucky, and Vanderbilt.

I will say this, we sure didn't seem to try very hard against Florida. We couldn't even get so much as a first down in the first quarter! And with a team that allegedly had the flu! That's okay though, we'll just have to try harder against Alabama. We came very close last year after all.

Well Bama is doing well right now, but we have some serious foes ahead of us.

I cannot begin to tell you how much of a UK fan I am this week. GO CATS!!!!!!

I hope that Kentucky wins by 14 touchdowns this week. Seriously, I'm hoping for a 98 point victory by the Wildcats!

Well, the next four games seem to have us facing Mickey Mouse clubs (though LA-Monroe does have a respectable record), so all we have to do is win all four of those games, then if we can get another quality win against either Georgia or Tennessee (I'd especially like us to beat Tennessee for once), that will give us eight wins! That should be enough to get us into a bowl game that people have actually heard of, right?

Even if we managed to win ALL of our remaining games and get nine wins (it's not an unrealistic goal, I think), I don't think that'd still be quite enough for a BCS bid, or would it? If only we hadn't fallen short in that South Carolina game...

Well, I'd like to think we got three Mickey Mouse clubs coming up, but I don't know about Mississippi State; they sure gave Florida all they could handle. But surely we can take them!

Well, after we properly disposed of Eastern Kentucky, Vandy is now up next. Once we take them down, that'll clinch us a fourth straight bowl game, but I'm still holding out hope that maybe we can beat Georgia and Tennessee to get into a bowl game people have actually heard of. I must say this would be a lot easier if we hadn't fallen just short against South Carolina and Mississippi State.

One down, one more to go! Today we go up against our traditional last game opponent, Tennessee! I think we have an excellent chance of finishing them off and getting an eight win season. That ought to be enough to get us a pretty decent bowl game, shouldn't it? If only we hadn't fallen just short against South Carolina and Mississippi State though...

I've seen a few sites saying you guys may be playing us, USF, in the Papa Johns bowl in Birmingham. I would be going, but it's one of the Big East Bowl games I won't be able to make it to with the International Bowl being the other.... I have tickets for Lightning-Penguins the same day

Yep saw that too. Unfortunately, if FSU ends up in the Gator Bowl (only b/c of Bowden) you may be matching up against Miami. Looks like we may play South Carolina or UGA if we go to the pizza bowl.
