Poll - Grade Opinions: 1829 Capped Bust Half-Dime

I bought this coin from a dealer (on their website) right before I left for Spain last month, and I've only just had the opportunity to look at it today.
It was listed as an LM-17, but the picture wasn't good enough to confirm that. I've since looked up the variety (not that it's that important) and have come up with LM-5 (R1), can anyone re-confirm?
This coin has likely been dipped, which is unfortunate since the photo and description neglected to exhibit this.
Essentially mark-free minus a couple nominal, light, circulation marks on the obverse.
Barring the above "problems", what would you Grade this coin?

Yes, it is the LM-5/V6, an R1 marriage. As to grade, I would give it no better than VF-20.

Has it been cleaned at one time? If so I'd say Net graded Fine.

Steve, that's another possibility I've thought about, but I've intensely looked at it under a loupe and can't find hairlines (which still doesn't rule out the fact that it may have been cleaned)
Thus the reason why I feel it has been dipped rather than cleaned.

I'm also strictly looking for Detail-Grade rather than Net-Grade at this point.

put the trash out, wash out the trash cans, come back, and find a half dime thread with five replies to it...baby busties are hot today!

VF-20 is the grade I'd assign.

VF20 overall but I'd give the reverse an independant grade of VF25.

I know many people hate split grades, with different grades assigned to obverse and reverse. But there are two sides to every coin, each with its own history, and coins do not necessarily wear uniformly on obverse and reverse. Therefore, I have no problem with split grades, and can concur with Cladiator's split grade of VF-20 obverse and VF-25 reverse, as the reverse is decidedly a little nicer that the obverse.

Thanks for all the help on grading this coin.
I had it at VF-25, but I'm a reasonable man and can work it down to a VF-20 since most of the Half-Dime vets feel that way. image
  • I am going to have to say VF25 with a net of F12 for cleaning and scratches. That might be kind of harsh though, I'd like to see it in hand.
