    The football list would have to include the greatest player in NFL history, MISTER Jim Brown.

    PS: On the sig line... the Blazers got eliminated awhile back. Maybe a 2009-10 update is in order.

    This is about perfect. The only card I think is missing is the Namath, but I have no idea who to bump from this list. Probably Payton, sadly

    If we're talking top five rookies price wise, thats a whole different list

    I'm not sure that it's even legal to have a baseball list that didn't include Mantle and/or Mays.

    I only know football but the way I see this list is it should be the 5 cards that changed the hobby, drive the hobby, are the cards that people think of when they think football cards. What are the f5 pivotal football cards?

    Everyone thinks of the Joe Montana rookie when they think of football cards. They also think of Namath. In my mind those are the two most "public" cards. You show those to a non-card collector, they know these cards just like the 52 Mantle.

    Now for the other three.

    1. Montana
    2. Namath
    3. Jim Brown
    4. Bart Starr
    5. Walter Payton

    NAMATH =OVER RATED

    I have never owned the card..and probably never will. He was over rated..and its almost criminal the price his card fetches. Give me a Nagurski, Grange, Baugh, Luckman, Graham and Brown any day over the Namath. There would probably be about 15 more that I would rather have than Namath.

    I can't agree more. But his card has a high demand behind it.

    i agree with you BDB. There will always be varying opinions on this but like it or not, Namath is one of THE most recognized and costly cards out there...

    Example, I know the 52 mantle, the T206 wagner, etc baseball cards, the Gretzky and Howe in hockey, the Kareem, Jordan and Mikan in BB....etc

    What are the top 5 football cards that are universally known? Some guys are listing Montana on here, I dont even think Montana is a top 20 card. Add in Layne, Bednarik, Dunlop, Gifford... the list goes on and on. Probably to modern collectiors the Elway, Marino and Montana are most known.

    Man this is a slippery slope of a conversation image Love it!

    Geez, why does nobody have Babe Ruth on their list? Sporting News is widely recognized as his rookie.
    "My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

    Another basketball card to consider is the 1933 Sport Kings Nat Holman. He's the only basketball HOFer in the set, and was a Celtic.

    You're right!

    I looked at the Sport Kings set in the PSA Registry, and Holman is the only basketball player identified as a HOFer. Lopchick was inducted in 1966. I guess PSA needs to update the set list in the Registry to reflect this.

    I agree image

    Top five baseball rookies (pleeeeeze add the Babe from a baseball RC "point of view" to any list!)

    The Sultan of Swat's rookie card would be on my list!

    Add Rose to a top five baseball rookie list!

    And again, from a baseball RC "point of view":

    Baseball: How about adding the only and only PSA 10 RC of Mr. Pete Rose? I'd pay 100K for it! If I won the Florida Lotto! image

    here's a PSA 8 example;

    Leave Mickey Mantle off of a "top five rookie list"?

    Not my list!

    And I threw-in a pic of Mick's '52 Topps card, just for the joy of it! image

    Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Ty Cobb can "fight it out" for a spot in the "top five rookies" list.

    Their rookie cards not to shabby either!

    I thought Maas was a no-brainer and the debate would be whether to bump Sam Horn for Hensley Muelens. Guess I'm biased by my Cal connection with Maas.
