Slayer did, does and will always rule. They were truly an original band who inspired literally thousands of copycats. A lot of people give Metallica most of the credit for starting the American thrash scene, but they had roots mainly in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Slayer was a true American band, stemming more from the early 80s LA punk scene than anything else.
Here's a more recent pic with original drummer Dave Lombardo back in the band.
That was amazing! Definitely a great way to start the morning! Bert & Ernie were killing it on the drums! Oscar's vocals were spot on. Grover's tecnique was a little sloppy, but he still pulled it off.

This list is a slight Joke.... No Anthrax and .......No Motorhead or Diamond Head???? Who do you think started all this?
I remember leaving a Metallica concert in 1996 and me and my buddies ran into Scott Ian in the street outside the stadium. He had 2 pretty nice looking girls in each arm. Guy singed outer ticket stubs. Couldn't have been more nice actually. He was in a great mood. Wonder where he was off to? Lol

You mention NWOBHM bands, that movement is highly underrated. There were tons of GREAT, heavy, doomy bands that nobody ever heard in the US.
My favorite right now is Witchfynde!!!!!!!!!! Give em Hell!!!!!!!
Witchfinder General is also great.
For the US nobody was ever better than Pentagram.
<< <i>Were they formerly known as Hall and Oates? >>
No that was Geraldo's band.

Oscar steals the show. Good stuff.
My favorite band since 1993 is Tool... the best live concert you could ever hope to witness.

<< <i>I saw them in concert about two months here in Atlanta. >>
That's a long ass concert.
and I'd much rather see Green Day these days, their last two albums have been true works of art.
