Any one ever met Sam Lukes?

He seems to relish a mysterious existence. Is it a pseudonym for a well known dealer?? A fugitive from justice? Seems very odd in this day and age someone would desire anonimity w/o a questionable motive??

Sure would like to see the 1858 DDO he has for sale at 200K. image

I met him earlier this year. Nice guy. Very neat handwriting.

As for the 1958 DDO I was offered that coin (MS-64RD) by him in a sealed bid auction in 1996. I was 2nd bidder at $25,000. The winning bid was $25,025. image

I found out later it didn't sell. Only later did it sell for $35K or perhaps a small amount more.

$200,000! Wow! I'd rather have a PR-66CAM Stella. Maybe Stewart will buy it so he can have all three!

Anyone have a pic they care to share?

Sadly, I have never met Sam, but I have spoken to him on the phone a number of times. A true gentleman, who has sold many rarities over the years.
I purchased my 1990 no S cent from him.

Edited to add; The $200k coin is a 1958 DDO as Eagle Eye mentions - not an 1858.

Seems to me that the reason so much incorrect information comes thru these boards is because of things like what has happened on THIS thread.

The OP most likely meant 1958 DDO, not 1858 DDO.

The third poster wanted to know if it was a FEC or a "Flying Eagle Cent".

The fourth poster wanted to see a picture of the "Flying Eagle Cent.

The fifth poster, that's me, states that the coin Rick Snow, the second poster was referring to IS a doubled die 1958 Lincoln cent which is very rare with only THREE known to exist. Stewart Blay, the famous Lincoln Cent collector owns two of them. I too would love to see a picture.
