Just announced! Special deal courtesy of the LA Convention Center. With any luck, the prices at the refreshment stands will also be bargains.

Hopefully, my Verizon service will work in there.

A lot of the convention centers on the coin circuit offer WiFi for similarly eye-popping prices - I guess big companies at trade shows pay them without much thought.
  • fcfc Posts: 12,793 ✭✭✭
that is the most expensive day of wifi use i have ever heard of. brilliant.
i assume this access was meant to cater to the people setting up tables
and not for the general public though. i can see vendors/sellers paying up
for it... just another cost to do business in such an area.

We are not quite there, but in a few years wireless broadband should be fairly ubiquitous & reasonably priced. Already you see a lot of rail commuters using wireless cards.

Remember how hotels used to gouge people for phone usage? That revenue stream is pretty much dead. The same thing will happen here.

My wife is an event planner and you would be amazed at the prices convention centers charge for stuff like 300.00 for a pot of coffee, etc. They figure it is companies who are doing most of the events and if you need a connection on the convention floor to do business they are going to charge as much as they can. 99.00 for wi fi (most likely unsecured too..) is typical of the ridiculous fees they charge for stuff...but folks do pony up!!!

Andy - I also just learned the X-Games are being hosted that same week at the same convention center so it should be nice and crowded and i'm sure a real enticement for folks to drive into downtown LA for the coin show image and of course to use the favorably priced Wi-fi

Our McDonalds have free wifi for AT&T customers.

Personally I believe within a decade most inhabited areas of the country will have some form of free wifi access.

As I said, this isn't unusual. I have seen the same quoted rate at least twice at different shows this year.

I used to exhibit at trade shows in a 10 x 10 booth several years ago. Renting a remnant of carpet for the booth floor was about $200. Renting a folding table, that you could buy at Office Depot for $40, was about $100.

If you can't carry the item by hand to your booth, the union gets involved.
