Guess the grade and win some W4I copper - winner in last post!!!

Well, I'm finally back up North (crossing the border was a breeze) and ready to send a couple of PCGS submissions with a goal of adding to my Mexico set, which has been falling behind Rosswb and Dizzlecc (ADD SOME PICTURES, GUYS!!!!) for a few months now. Seeing how I helped B.J. with setting that one up, I feel a personal responsibility to catch-up and kick some a#$ image

So, in a spirit of Mexico - a small contest.

Whoever comes closest to guessing the combined grades of these two coins wins a nifty War of Independence copper 1 Real (SUD).

Here are some photos to help you guess. I'm not 100% happy with the way the photos turned-out, but blaming it on being very rusty with macro photography and still lacking a proper set-up image

Coin #2 - 1824 Mexico Hookneck 8 Reales:

    So, Don, you think that one of them will go 70 and the other 46? What kind of whacko grading system is that? image

    I'm just messing with you, Don image

    I wonder if it would be more accurate to combine the difference in individual grade guesses to get the lowest score to win the coin.

    How about whoever is closest to the actual grades image If someone ties with another poster then look who posted the grade first. Of course, this is YOUR contest and not mine! image Thanks for the chance.

    Only a few days left (hopefully) until grades and images are available.

    I think I will re-define the qualification requirement for winning that 1 Real.

    The winner will be a person with the lowest score when combined the absolute value of the differences between individual grade. Also, in case of a tie - the main prize will go to the first person that posted their guess, but smaller conselation prizes will be awarded to those that tied.

    score = abs(actual grade 1 - guessed grade 1) + abs(actual grade 2 - guessed grade 2)

    For ease of use, let's call the actual grades "X". Also, this way I can just quickly do a replace of all X1 and X2 with the posted grades.

    Current scores:

    ASUtodd = abs(X1 - 63) + abs(X2 - 40) =
    silverpop = abs(X1 - 60) + abs(X2 - 55) =
    BS = abs(X1 - 53) + abs(X2 - 55) =
    FilthyBroke = abs(X1 - 62) + abs(X2 - 53) =
    Bailathacl = abs(X1 - 63) + abs(X2 - 58) =
    farthing = abs(X1 - 55) + abs(X2 - 45) =
    Hussulo = abs(X1 - 55) + abs(X2 - 53) =
    zeebob = abs(X1 - 55) + abs(X2 - 45) =
    olmanjon = abs(X1 - 62) + abs(X2 - 40) =
    ormandh = abs(X1 - 58) + abs(X2 - 53) =
    Walmann = abs(X1 - 58) + abs(X2 - 45) =
    Coinguy19 = abs(X1 - 63) + abs(X2 - 45) =
    smet = abs(X1 - 55) + abs(X2 - 40) =
    justanothercoinaddict = abs(X1 - 58) + abs(X2 - 45) =
    coinkat = abs(X1 - 53) + abs(X2 - 50) =
    savoyspecial = abs(X1 - 62) + abs(X2 - 50) =
    7Jaguars = abs(X1 - 55) + abs(X2 - 62) =
    ajaan = abs(X1 - 116) + abs(X2 - 0) = <~~ Don, let me know if you were thinking of a different break-down image
    OzzyAndy = abs(X1 - 61) + abs(X2 - 55) =
    dizzlecc = abs(X1 - 53) + abs(X2 - 45) =

    I'm sticking to my original. I like the abs. value thing though. If the second coin is BBed as PCGS 0, is everything still a go?

    Everything is still a go. If any of the coins are BB'ed - the actual grade value is set to 0.

    Grades are in - 45 and 45. I was hoping for a 50-53 from the pillar, but the lack of luster prevented it from getting that grade. With the hookneck, the reverse is the reason it didn't go AU. While there are traces of luster on the obverse, the reverse is gull grey.

    This brings us to ...

    Current scores:

    ASUtodd = abs(45 - 63) + abs(45 - 40) = 18+5 = 23
    silverpop = abs(45 - 60) + abs(45 - 55) = 15+10 = 25
    BS = abs(45 - 53) + abs(45 - 55) = 8+10 = 18
    FilthyBroke = abs(45 - 62) + abs(45 - 53) = 17+8 = 25
    Bailathacl = abs(45 - 63) + abs(45 - 58) = 18+13 = 31
    farthing = abs(45 - 55) + abs(45 - 45) = 10+0 = 10
    Hussulo = abs(45 - 55) + abs(45 - 53) = 10+8 = 18
    zeebob = abs(45 - 55) + abs(45 - 45) = 10+0 = 10
    olmanjon = abs(45 - 62) + abs(45 - 40) = 17+5 = 22
    ormandh = abs(45 - 58) + abs(45 - 53) = 13+8 = 21
    Walmann = abs(45 - 58) + abs(45 - 45) = 13+0 = 13
    Coinguy19 = abs(45 - 63) + abs(45 - 45) = 18+0 = 18
    smet = abs(45 - 55) + abs(45 - 40) = 10+5 =15
    justanothercoinaddict = abs(45 - 58) + abs(45 - 45) = 13+0 = 13
    coinkat = abs(45 - 53) + abs(45 - 50) = 8+5 = 13
    savoyspecial = abs(45 - 62) + abs(45 - 50) = 17+5 = 22
    7Jaguars = abs(45 - 55) + abs(45 - 62) = 10+17 = 27
    ajaan = abs(45 - 116) + abs(45 - 0) = 71+45 = 116 (interestingly enough)
    OzzyAndy = abs(45 - 61) + abs(45 - 55) = 16+10 = 26

    image dizzlecc = abs(45 - 53) + abs(45 - 45) = 8+0 = 8 image

    On a serious note... I would like to see them in hand to see if 45 on both is just alittle too tough.

    The pillar was a definite 45 in my opinion. The color is nice, but the surfaces lack luster completely.

    The hook-neck was in an NGC45 holder before i cracked it out, because the obverse had luster. I was hoping that would bump it up to at least 50, but apparently not.

    Hopefully True View shots will give you a better idea. My images have been lacking severely ever since I got rid of my photo set-up.
