It's a gold eagle Guess The Grade thread

image

A very coppery, lustery gold eagle.

Guess the grade. Try to guess what holder it is in as well.

I seem to have used lighting that emphasizes every little hit. I was trying to show the luster.

    I'll say MS63.

You better hope gecko doesn't see it, he's overly harsh when it comes to $10 Libs. image

While 'yer at it, here is another one. An 1855 half eagle. Guess the slab and grade on this one too:

Yeah, I caught a little glare on the reverse shot and was too lazy to reshoot.

I'm going MS61 on the 1889 Eagle... but if it was in MS62 plastic it wouldn't shock me either.

    New pictures in first post...

I was not satisfied with the first pictures I posted.

I re-took pictures of the 1889 by looking through the lens with a lamp in each hand. Then I positioned the two lamps where it seemed best. This coin is extremely sensitive to where I put the light; if I just put them to the side like usual, much of the coin looks very dark.

Also, today I got a Yosemite medal from the mint.

It is a very nice large rimless medal.

    I say 62, 35, and 15 on the gold.

regarding the 72S quarter eagle, what's that nearly perfect circle between stars 9 and 10?

I do not know what the thing on the quarter eagle is. I'll be whipping out the 65mm micro lens on that one tonight and i'll provide a greatly magnified image of the region.

Since I do not see a matching issue on the reverse, I don't think it is a hole patch.

I think it is a beauty mark. All ugly coins need a beauty mark.

Always a danger on this forum. Post a few pictures of recent purchases. Then wait for the "look at the cr@ppy dre¢k you just bought" comments. At least I am happy in my ignorance.

I've already posted this in another thread, but I thought i'd post it here too.

The spot on the quarter eagle appears to be a drop of glue.

Here is a link to the Heritage lot

If you look at the full resolution Heritage images...
Yes, the blob is there, but it's not nearly as noticeable as in my photographs. I missed it entirely; I guess I need to learn to look closer at Heritage photos!
