Best way to store 86-87 Fleer Sets? + a few nice 86-87 Fleer commons

So I have nearly six full 86-87 Fleer sets. All are in toploads now, they are big and bulky though. Should I put them in binders and sheets, in semi rigids that are much less bulky than toploads or just keep them in toploads?

I picked up a nice lot of 160+ 86-87 Fleer commons today, all in sleeves and many clean and well centered cards had minor lower left corner torches- likely from a recent bump of the storage box that they were in. I did find these four that look nice. What do you guys think?

I would leave them in the top loaders. I find that Binders damage the cards over time.

Would you use Card Savers 1 to store sets? I have a 1955 Topps All-American set that is in binders. I want to move the set to something more secure.

I store my raw 1986 Fleer BKB set in penny sleeves inside a 200-ct set box.

    Join the Army!!

    I share your pain.......

I keep mine in penny sleeves in toploaders, easier for me to flip through and check out

    single cards without tossing pages

  • I would stay away from pages, because its easy to crease the cards as you look thru them.

Your doing the right thing by having them in top loaders. The next best thing would be PSA graded and I think those 4 cards look great!

I would submit all but the Roundfield. The Hanzlik brings good money in PSA 10 (used to be around $450 but haven't kept up with prices for the last 6 months).

I dropped the Roundfield and went back and picked out these. Any input is appreciated, the only one I think I should drop is the Steve Johnson. The Hanzlick is a different one than the one scanned above. I know some of these are not as nice as the first ones, but most of these are good in a PSA 9 so I figure it is worth a shot.
I also took a picture of my 86-87 Fleer collection to show how it is stored and all the cards I have looked through twice now.

I think the storage in the box with penny sleeves and top loaders is best

I place rigid plastic page breaks on the front, back, and between every 20 or so pages of my sets in binders...they protect the cards for indentations, bending, corner damage...I really recommend it.

I wouldn't go binders unless you are really careful - along the lines of what Ross said.

If you want to compact down from top loaders, I'd go penny sleeves and CSI's.

    And I'd submit the Roundfield.

    allen,

6 sets, obsessive compulsive or what bro?

lee got me involved in this set and some $1500 bucks later i have a set i really like, thanks in part to lee of course...

i keep all my sets in binders, but use 2 binders for 660 card sets and have only 1 binder for the 86 fleer set.

i have never had any problems w/ creasing,
i have never felt comfortable sliding cards into the rigid top loaders things and the flimsy ones i have never used either,
but knock on wood, there probably goes the trimmed jordan lee sold me...

If you're going to put them in pages, I also suggest these:

    Link

They're the inexpensive alternative to a binder & slipcase, but keep the top/sides/bottom of your pages covered.

You can take the handle off and store them on a shelf.

I have most of my sets in binders with slipcases. Easier to store and view collection. Slantycouch link looks like a nice way to go. Toploaders in a box make it a chore to view sets. Taking out the nicest ones and building a graded set would be fun too. It looks like you have plenty to choose from!
  • I knew I should of not opened this thread. I store all my 50's and 60's BB sets in pages and binders. Even the top dollar Mantles and Aarons etc are in the pages. I love the way the 50's cards look in pages. But I am now worried. And what is the RING thing mentioned earlier?
  • JeremyDie1JeremyDie1 Posts: 2,383 ✭✭✭
Depending on how you store the binders. If you lay them flat and stack the 3 ring binder could indent the last few pages of cards in the set closest to the ring.

    Honesty,

the best way to store them would be to let me hold them.

i wouldn't even charge you, lol.
