sports bloggers and sports websites are talking this up - maybe as soon as August 2009. I favor the reinstatement.

<< <i>Even if he is he won't get close to enough votes to get in the HOF. >>
That would be the true irony of it. All these years of waiting and waiting and once he finally gets on the ballot, he doesn't muster enough votes from the BBWAA.

Well, he definitely won't ever get in via the BBWAA vote...his 15 years of eligibility following his retirement from baseball have long since passed, so the only way he can possibly get in would be through the Veteran's committee. While he has the support of a number of players (Schmidt, Morgan, and now Aaron apparently), there are many other members of the committee who won;t vote for him, so I'm not sure he'd get the 75% needed, at least on the first try.

I guess so -- a Freudian double-post!
All kidding aside, if he truly shows remorse and makes the "right statements" against illegal gambling, then at that point he's got a decent chance to get in, perhaps even a definite chance if he does it correctly.

I figured he was never on the ballot so it made sense that he would serve his 15 years first then off to the veterans?

No, a player is ineligible for the BBWAA ballot if more than twenty years have passed since he was last active (5 years to become eligible for ballot plus 15 years maximum eligibility from that point for a total of 20 years), so Rose cannot be placed on the BBWAA ballot if he is reinstated under the current guidelines for HOF voting..
edit for spelling
