David Lange, who seems to always worry about the style of "3's" in the date, observed
that for some reason the 3 on 1934-P and 1934-D issues were made using the correct
style, but then returned to the incorrect style in 1935 through 1939.

It should be mentioned that the 1943 issue also had this type of 3 and
the 1931 style of 3 is different as well with the bottom extending out
    further to the left.
Minor changes to the style of numbers used in the Lincoln series occured
occasionally and are of no premium, so keep looking at your Lincolns!image

Correct style for what? All the other 3s except 1934 until 1943 were the rounded style. The pointed 3 seemed to come out of nowhere.

And 5s are similar, 1945 has a small 5, and in 1950 there was suddenly a pointed style. It doesn't seem possible they just forgot to use the correct style for 20-40 years.
