Got My fall work assignments - anything to see in Baton Rouge

Will after spending the spring working up north they are sending me down south this fall. I'm headed to Baton Rouge Louisiana and then back to South Carolina. I saw what there was to see in South Carolina last year, but Louisiana is a new plant for me. SO what is there to see and do in Baton Rouge - coin shop's - food - should I head down to New Orleans. Any Idea's welcome.

I lived in Baton Rouge about three years ago. It's population has grown since Hurricane Katrina, and there are some parts to stay away from. Anyway, the one coin shop that I knew of when I lived there was a little underwhelming.

If you make it to New Orleans, however, of course there is plenty to do around town. There is a very nice coin/antique weapon/antique jewelry shop on Royal Street in the French Quarter. It's called James H Cohen and Sons. The store is more impressive than their web site would have you believe. Here's the site link: James H. Cohen and Sons
  • Thanks ---- any other idea's

If I were going to Baton Rouge I would certainly want to contact Lynn Ourso at:

I don't know what you collect (I assume from your avatar that you collect halves, but I don't know what series), but if Bust and particularly Seated material is your thing, then you really should contact Lynn and peruse his offerings. Lynn does not have a B&M store, but I am sure he would be pleased to show you some nice coins if you contacted him. Check out his website and see if there might be something of interest. His grading is very conservative, and he has a real eye for quality.
