anyone making the trip to cooperstown tomorrow??

i'm headed to cooperstown tomorrow (actually in about eight hours) for the day to see my boy jim ed rice finally get inducted into the hall of fame; the bus leaves at 6am from boston gaaaahden (garden) and is expected to arrive in cooperstown around 10:30. my buddy was supposed to be going with me but his wife got food poisoning so he has to stay home and take care of the kids, so i'm going by myself. i've only been to the hall of fame once, back in the summer of 1987, and that wasnt during induction weekend, so i'm really looking forward to it (although not looking forward to a 4-1/2 hour bus ride, although its supposedly a pretty sweet bus with tvs and dvd players, etc).

any of u guys going up there for the day tomorrow?? (or down there, depending on where u're coming from, i guess). maybe some of u local guys are going and might even be on this same tour??!!

finally, any suggestions from u hall of fame (or induction weekend) veterans as to how i should spend the 2-3 hours i'll have at the hall before (and after) the 1:30 induction ceremony starts?? (the package includes a ticket to the hall of fame; the induction ceremony is free and is expected to last 2-3 hours depending how long rickey's speech is).

Once you get into the village you can do a lot before the ceremony. There will be many Hall of Famers signing before and triple the number after the ceremony. If you are not into autographs go to the Hall of Fame first ~~ get a membership if you don't have one -- it costs 40.00 and you get free admission (which you can use after the ceremony) + you will get a % off whatever you buy. There are free buses to the Clark Center but if you have the time the walk is very nice and could be quicker on the way back. Bring a chair if you can plus plenty of sunscreen and have a blast

    Hey Mike
Where are you from ---- I think you would be a kid in a candy store when you get a chance to go to Cooperstown -- what upcoming name would get you there?

Actually, there is only one player that I'd ever make the trip for the special purpose of just seeing them inducted, and he ain't gettin' in unless he buys admission like me image Jim Sundberg would be that guy. He was a great defensive catcher, all around nice guy, and my boyhood idol, unfortunately, he couldn't hit too well. I might go up to see Pudge Rodriguez as well (as long as he goes in as a Rangers) although that wouldn't be an automatic visit.

One of these days, I'll eventually go up there just to visit, not for induction weekend (as I'd prefer to not have the crowds), but during their slow season so I could take time to take everything in at my own pace. I know what you mean about being like a kid in the candy store. When the Rangers opened up the Ballpark in Arlington, I spent hours and hours in their Legends of the Game Museum. Sometimes, I'd just go to the Museum and not even attend the game. It was simply amazing to me to know that I was standing there inches away from Ty Cobb's trophy's, great baseballs from historic games that I had only read about, uniforms, Babe Ruth game used items, etc. etc., etc. I've even offered to "loan" them (the Rangers) items from my Rangers full team autographed collection before (as their Rangers sections were quite lacking) , but when I've spoken with them, they've only been interested if I permanently gave them to them and I'm not doing that. I've told them they could basically display stuff but if I die my family gets it back, and that's not good enough for them.

(oh, and I'm from Texas, about 30 miles South of Dallas in a little town called Waxahachie)

mikelowell has left by now, but I'm sure he'll find the museum a bit different than it was in 1987 (the last time he was there)
