Is there any significance to these tiny intials on a 1884 Peru Sol?

I'm referring to the small initials below the shield, "FD"

I found pictures of both an 1885 and a 1886 dated coin and neither had those initials.

    The initials are legit and are documented in the Standard Catalog of World Coins as Type 7 or 8. I believe they are the assayer's or designer's initials at the Santiago, Chile mint.

    Nice closeup. Wow, look at all that die polish goin' on. At least, that is what I assume it is. It's funny how it gives the fields a sort of "textile" look. I like it, actually.

    Why then do later date coins not have them? This 1886/5 appears to be blank:
