Wasn't this one of those patterns that the members of Congress "lost" after they were handed out for review?

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

When I saw the title, I knew that was going to be the coin! You guys were so fortunate to get to see it in hand.

Did it change hands there or did someone bring it for "show and tell"?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Is this coin legal to own or sell?

It seems that the Treasury Dept

    would swoop in and confiscate.

I'd be concerned if I owned one these things I'd end up like "Izzy's family" and have the Secret Service confiscate it. I’d end up with not enough money to pay a lawyer to try to get it back.

It’s OK to look at it, but I don’t want one.

If I'm going to pay a very high price, let it be for a nice early coin with no question as whether it's legal to own it.

If I wanted a "white cent" maybe I'd look for a way to clean the copper off a new one and let the zinc show. It would probably look good for a week or so before the exposed zinc started to turn to dust.
