Opinions on this 1934 Walker toning....

I didn't want to be spamming so I waited until this coin sold on the BST before I asked for opinions on the toning. Walkerguy21D thought that the toning may have been caused by;

<<< guessing it was in an old envelope for many years, possibly that had a rubber band or something around a stack of coins, and that the rev of this coin was on the bottom and came in contact with it to give it that darker rainbow streak all the way across the reverse. The envelope would be permeable, and over years the extra sulfur from the rubber band would leach through the envelope. Just a WAG of course, but a very nice ORIGINAL walker regardless. >>>

I think that could be a very likely scenario, do you have an idea?

John

    I think the rubberband theory could be right....However, it has a arc to it.........hmmmmmmmmmmm....MJ

    Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

    I also agree with the rubberband theory. Maybe the owner tried stacking too many coins together and the rubberband snapped, removing a coin or two from the stack then tieing the snapped rubberband back together in a knot. It would also explain the extra thickness of toning about 3/4 of the way from "America" to "Half Dollar" which is about where that arc begins.

    a crease or fold in the paper could have done that as well

    I have also seen that type of toning from the small yellow envelopes we all used to use from the coin collecting sets we bought as kids. Many times you will see writing on the outside and one or more coins tucked in the inside. These were stored in small boxes typically much like 2x2 row boxes today. I have occassionally seen these where the flap of the little envelope has been tucked in and coins stored like that for many years often exhibit the pattern in the coin you have photographed.

    I think she is a beauty and my guess is the above although Walkerguy21D is a very knowledgeable guy and his theory could be easily spot on. Great Coin!!
