Magnifying images on eBay

Recently I've started bidding on some 9-card lots on eBay. After clicking on "Enlarge", the resulting images are still very small. What's the best way to magnify them without losing too much resolution? I've tried a couple of methods, but neither one works too well:

(1) Right-click on the image, save it as an HTML file, then open the HTML file using Firefox, and zoom in.

(2) Take a screenshot, paste screenshot into PhotoShop, then zoom in.

    You are not going to want to increase the image size from it's original size as it will decrease image quality. What auction are you looking at? Sometimes people use an image from their own hosting and reduce the image size from within the html coding. If that's the case you can download a larger image with the original quality.

    Please let me know if I can help you in any way.

    There isn't much you can do that I know of. Like Brian stated above, enlarging the provided eBay pic will just decrease the quality. I always add a higher resolution picture that is hosted on Photobucket to my listings, since the provided eBay pic does little to show detail.

    Use Photobucket. It's free. Use the direct link, 2nd choice under your uploaded picture. Use this HTML coding on either side of the direct link:
    <img src="your direct link goes here">
    You'll get a picture this size on your ebay listing:

    Click on my auctions in the signature line to see how one card scans come out. It is the only way to list cards on ebay now with their new picture scheme.
    Here is a one card scan on ebay doing it this way:

  • Thanks for the responses. When I sell a 9-card lot on eBay, I insert a link to the higher resolution photos in my SmugMug account.

    My original question was about buying 9-card lots on eBay. Here's an example of a lot with small images:

    The problem with that listing is the image is being hosted on ebay and uses javascript from the ebay listing. If it was self hosted you can use the page source and see if the original hosted image is any larger.

    It sounds like you have the right idea about using your own self hosting withing the description of the item being auctioned.

    Ask for a better picture, if the seller does not give you one that may be a red flag.

    I like to post images via html within auction. Very easy if you use imageshack or photobucket

    I just ask the seller to email me the scan/file. Then I can enlarge it without lowering the quality.
