I'm no expert, but I own a little fractional gold. I have a Goofy Head (BG-1047) as well. I love these little coins, but they are so difficult to photograph. Here's what I know...

Breen & Gillio's Fractional Gold Book (2nd edition) list it as a high rarity 4 (about 76 - 100 known). It's gold plated over a silver core. Often comes with proof-like surfaces.

Searching the Heritage Auction archives shows they've sold more than a dozen over the years (back to 1993). Most are in MS, but there are a couple PCGS AU55 coins that went for $276. For comparison, a PCGS M63 coin sold in March of this year for $488. A scratched/cleaned one in an NCS holder sold three years ago for $150.

You can also look at the PCGS price guide's Auction Prices Realized section. They list California Fractional Gold by BG-#. Most of the sales I see are for the same Heritage auctions, but there are a few more, again same price range.

I'm the wrong person to estimate price. I always overpay for my coins. Is it in an old holder? Most of these coins I see are in mint state, just wondering if it's really AU50. Any chance of posting a picture? If I had to guess, I'd say it's worth between $225 and $300, but I think there are real fractional gold experts here, and hopefully they'll give their opinion as well.

You may also want to check Teletrade auction prices realized for this coin and other similar Period 3 Cal gold of the same denomination and rarity. Teletrade has auctioned quite a few Cal fractional gold.

Bob good information. However in the past few months prices have softened on these little pieces. I would estimate the current price in the $175-$200 range for the grade and with the rarity stated. May see some improvement in prices in Los Angeles though so I reserve the right to change my mind.
