Got a phone call from the local jewler today asking if I would meet with an older gentleman looking to get some info on coins.
The jewlery store has a sign saying they buy silver and gold.
The jewler is one of the few honest guys around and everytime any coins come in he gives me a call so I can let his customer know what they have.
Well I wasn't expecting much today. However, When I meet the guy at my office at the end of the day the first thing out of his mouth is "this is just a small sample of what I have"
What he brought me to look at was a number of Mexican bullion coins from ranging from the 2 peso coins to the 1+ ouncers. Several silver rounds. A bunch of Morgans in old rattles, green holders and NGC fatties. Mostly common. Also in this group was the barber dime posted below.
It turns out he had been a collector in the 80's and early 90's but then got out. Now that he is getting older he is trying to figure out what to do with his collection.
First of all it sounds like he may have bought most of the coins during the last peak. For instance he paid 1100+ for the barber dime in the late 80's early 90's.
Told him to get a red book, gave him the PCGS website and heritage website, showed him how to look up his coins and told him to organize them and then if he wants to sell I would help him get top dollar. I look forward to seeing his other coins
I love looking through these older collections.
Question for you proof collectors: What do you think this barber dime is worth. Heritage has PF64's at about 950. I told him that due to eye appeal it at least 1100+.
The coin is properly graded in an older NGC holder (green label with a bar code). Coin has amazong eye appeal but a few hairlines by Dime and obverse fields.
