What is the oldest PSA 10 you have had graded?

What card was the oldest PSA 10 you have had graded by PSA? Maybe even a story of how you bought or found the card.
Mine was 11639518 GEM MINT 10 1961 FLEER 87 HACK WILSON I busted a 1961 Fleer Baseball pack. I bought a total of 19 packs with the box in 2003. And one of the seals was lose so I opened it. They came from one of the Fleer families kid who was in college and needed some cash. He also had a few 1959 Fleer packs that I bought but rats got to them and they were ugly!

This is my oldest 10. It's part of my Cy Young Award winner registry set. I only paid around $15 for it too:

I collect a few Braves' player sets and will almost always buy Braves team sets from tough issues or rare oddball issues. I bought a Braves team set of a 1978 Coke promo set about 3 years ago and sent the Murphy only in for grading. I thought it had a shot and it came back a 10 which was thrilling.. In addition to the age of the card, the set is also slightly oversized which makes safe storage difficult. Not sure how the previous owner had them stored, but they did a good job. 2 others since then have gotten 10's so might not be super tough. Anyway, thats the oldest self-submit 10 that I can remember...

There's a recent thread dedicated to the Fisk. I bought it as a 9 and fell in love. The moment I had it in hand I knew it was a 10. I sent it in on a free registry review and it came back with a bump to a Pop 1 of 1 Gem Mint 10. image

I just bought a PSA 10 1987 Fleer Bonds for $39.99 delivered for my Top 200 cards set.

Oldest PSA 10 I have is 1982 Topps Cal Ripken Jr RC.

Think this one might be tough to beat. My jaw dropped when I looked at the submission results. Bunch of 8's and 9's and this 10.
    image

    Edited to add background.

This set was issued as a game, the reverse has a bunch of codes for various plays. There are two variations- red and blue. I had the red in a 9, and found the blue in a 10. But I didn't have the box and game board. There was one up on ebay, with about a dozen or 15 of the reds. I won it and thought I'd grade the nicer ones and sell them. I submitted a bunch, and this 10 came back along with a few 9's, some 8's, and a few lower grade ones.
I eventually sold all the graded ones, gave away the raw lesser grade ones, and came out in the black on the deal.
At the time there was a guy paying over $1K for a 10, I was pretty happy to get mine essentially for free.

I'm still a PSA 10 virgin, but hoping my luck will change once the group submission is returned and also when my own sub is returned from July. Of course, the oldest thing I subbed was from '78, so it won't compete with some of great scans that have already been posted.

All Pop 1's. Got these very inexpensively the 81 on Ebay which I sold a lesser condition one for the same amount of the purchase and the 2 83's were from a lot at the shriners show in boston last year. I spent a total of $8 on the lot which also included an 83 #301 psa 9 sticker, an 82 post cereal #99 psa 9, and an 81 opc card #383 psa 8 all Gretzky.

    Beautiful cards guys!

I've submitted very few cards over the years and never have had a 10.

The best is 9 - and the oldest:

    image

Paid 30 bucks for the Baylor.

I did submit a couple of 60T commons to test my eye - one 8, one 9 - don't have it in photobucket.

    mike

edit: as a side note to Anthony's beauty of a card - as you guys know - I recently picked up a complete set with 50 Lajoie cards - not sure if any are 10 - the set is aged - some surfaces are better than others and there's a differnce in aging of some cards as one can see by the difference in these 2 cards:

A few years back my brother and I went to a flea market in the Youngstown, Ohio area. He'd heard there was a card and pennant guy that we needed to check out. Well there was and he had his son working the booth on the day we went. He had a ton of nice older stuff. But he had a run of '72 football hi #'s that were just awesome. Well my brother was looking them over and after he looked at them he would set them down. Well he set a pretty Warfield AP that I picked up and offered $25 for. The son really didn't have a clue as to what it was worth. But he sold it to me anyways. As you guessed, it got a PSA 10! I eventually sold it for $466 on eBay. My brother was kind of irked at me as he was going to offer on it. Oh well. Wish I still had a picture for you all, but it was a beauty!

I submitted a 1966 Topps Jerry Buchek card during the April special that came back a 10. Surprisingly, I don't have a scan yet, because I've never gotten around to opening the box.

I guess that gets me to within 53 years of Anthony's submission. image

I sold my 61 Fleer Wilt Chamberlain IA - PSA 10 many years ago at auction. I wonder if it was reslabbed in a newer PSA holder, what it would bring in today's market place? image

Do not know how old these "Arcade Indian strips" are, but I know there are "tons of 10s" if I ever wanted to "hand cut" and submit them to PSA!!! (I'm clueless to value of these oldies! Anyone have an idea what a PSA 10 might be worth? I'm not even sure PSA would grade them????? BTW, anyone have any clue as to the age of these strips????) ...

My oldest is a 1968 common. I also have several 1969 commons and several from the early 70s, all but one submitted by me. Unfortunately I haven't hit a 10 on a star card yet. The closest would be some 1972's, Concepcion, Billy Martin IA, Leo Durocher.

Many of these cards pictured were in the 25 Cent bin in the card shows of the 1980s-90....

Now they are multi hundred $$$ cards just because some grading company says its a 10.

ha ha I never get over how this hobby has gone a bit crazy.

Buy the card not the slab

BTW here is my "10" below

I have had 2 PSA 10's in my grading career. One, I purchase off of EBAY, a 1987 Topps Traded Greg Maddux, sold it for $20. The other was a graded card I purchased off of EBAY as a BVG 9, took it out and had it graded by PSA and they slabbed it a 9 also. But, I had the card regraded with the April special and got a "10". Population now is 2. The card was a 1978 Pete Rose O-Pee-Chee.image

Sounds like a really nice friend, Jay. Probably devilishly handsome, too. :)

"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
