Sample slab question

Do people collect these things by variety or what? There were several in a lot of miscellaneous junk I bought and I'm trying to figure out what to do with them. Any thoughts?

People do collect them.

I have a few - some I've bought and some I've received as samples. I even have an ICG sample that I received from Cameron Keifer ("Sheriff SampleSlab" himself), when he was an ICG grader.

Cameron used to run sampleslabs.com, but the site isn't there anymore.

Perhaps you can track him down or perhaps someone else will chime in about sample slabs.

I suppose it would be too much to hope that there might be a live website or something out there that could provide some enlightenment on this topic, wouldn't it?

Perhaps the still operating TPGs should make a list of their sample holders and the average market prices for them, similar to how the Red Book list their past issues.

I have a friend that has amassed over 300 different sample slabs. He mainly gets them off of e-bay and sometimes they go for good money. You might want to check e-bay history to see how well the ones you have, have done.

These were handed out at Central States this year, and the label is in error, since the Keelboat nickles were in 2004.

I have about 170 sample slabs. When I see them I get most of mine for free.

A major show without a free sample slab is a show I did not work the floor hard enough!

Of course, I have paid as much as $200 for others.

Thanks for the info! After checking them out, it appears I have (2) PCGS5, one each 1964 and 64-D dimes, (1) PCGS7 w/ 1964 half, (3) PCGS10, w/ 1920, 1925 and 1928 cents, (1) ICG27 w/Irish penny and (1) similar to SEGS7.2, w/2004 P nickel. I'll have to keep an eye on eBay to see what shows up.
