Autograph question?

I have a letter that I sent to the Dodgers in September 1959, several weeks before they won the World Series. My handwritten letter (8" X10") was circulated around the dugout and signed by 14 Dodgers, including 4 HOFers and returned to me. Autographs are clean. Letter folded but did not crease autographs. I do not have the envelope. Any thoughts on how something like this would be valued? Thanks

cool item; I would hope that the sentimental value would exceed any monetary value however....(perhaps $150 or so)

I agree -- $150 - $200 makes sense. It would make for good matting and a nice team run of signatures, even though it is only half of the team. A really neat item
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Here's what I would do...get a picture of the Dodgers playing at the LA coliseum (they were not yet moved into Dodger Stadium), frame it it with the signatures. Will look great. Don't sell. Too interesting an item.

Gil Hodges, Chuck Dressen etc. could be worth a bit more than 200. If you did that these days they would probably throw your letter away. Great item

That is such a kewl piece ... not just because of the autos, but because YOU were the one who wrote the letter FIFTY YEARS ago! DEFINITELY NOT something that should be sold ... that would be one of the last items I would sell if it were mine!

  • Duh! Someone can count. 16 and 4 HOFers. Thanks for all the comments. Keep them coming. Great ideas. I plan to keep it. Typical story -- my Mom 'disposed' of my collection (I had letters from most of the teams in 59) and this was the one that I managed to hide away and save. Today this just couldn't (or wouldn't) happen!

That is one of the neatest pieces I've seen in a long time. I love the way you wrote it and how they neatly signed on the lines. I'd never part with it either! One sweet piece!!!

I, too, agree that you should keep it. BUT, if you were to sell it, I would list it on September 10th and hype the fact that it is 50 years ago to the day.

I remember that WS - I was still living in NYC - was a big Dodger fan - first glove was a Duke Snider Rawlings - not happy when they left.

That's a terrific item! And they look good - definitely not a clubhouse fake.

Wish Koufax was on there - still a great item - I'ld want a team pic and frame that!

I noticed that Pee Wee signed the letter - he was not a player by then but rather a coach along with Chuck Dressen.

    Thanx for sharing

I would buy 2 Dodgers patchs something like these 2 and then frame the letter and the patches:

I agree with this. It also has Carl Furillo which is also a tougher signature. The sad thing is that the signatures would be worth more cut up and sold individually then it is as one piece. I never have understood that. image

Awesome piece, by the way. Please let me know if you ever do decide to sell it.
