How many of the doubled District of Columbia quarters were found?

BlackhawkBlackhawk Posts: 3,898 ✭✭✭
...and have any been sold in a public forum? Were they just found in one spot in Texas, or was the mintage more widespread? I may have not been paying attention, but I haven't heard much lately.

Now, sadly I am addicted to the number 42.

    I found three, so far.
Fellow forum member misterR found three also,so far.
On E-bay recently two were sold and one more is up right now by the same seller
that sold the last one at a high of $1,225.
brb with a link to current sale...

What kind of hoard does the ebay seller have though. If he's got half a brain he drained the bank they came from, watched what armored car service they use, hit up every bank serviced by that service, then ordered more through as many as possible.
Thats how you do it folks.

Those are sweet DDR's and my searches yielded zip!

Hopefully the prices will sustain on these and in 40 years, someone will be very happy!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

there must be thousands out there i`d guess but, if the mint guys spotted the
error and pulled the die before the life of the die would normally retire then, they
    just may remain fairly scarce.

Posted this before, found 4 in a roll.
Some form of doubling? The raised lines extend from the L to the keys.

that was a P mint right?
personally i dont think its any form of doubling
other than gouges or worked on for whatever reason dies.
pretty interesting piece though either way.

    Cam40, yes it's a P mint Ellington.
The lines are nearly the same thickness as the lettering.

i like how the lines look like instrument cords running in and out of the piano
    in a few places.

I'm still looking but have had no luck.

Maybe there aren't thousands of these but hundreds?

From "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." The answer to The Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe and Everything is: "42!"

It is also the answer to the question "How much is nine times seven."

    And one more makes four.

If you find the right rolls from the right area you better be prepared to look through fifty rolls to find one.
I would say they are really spread thin.

I have a feeling these will start showing up in circulation in the future.

I noticed an USmint seal box of two rolls of Columbia Quarters sold today on E-Bay for $166.16... ( with 13 bids ) They must be finding these errors in the mint boxes? image

Have any of these traded hands in the last three or four months?

    Any new pieces discovered?

    I don't think so.

Haven't heard a thing more about these for another month now.

Might consider selling one of mine in the 2K range.
I probably have several hundred tied up in each of my few in "searching expenses".
    But it has been fun.

I am surprised that these have dropped out of sight. In my opinion that was a serious doubled die. I guess it just got lost in the plethora of doubled finger cents.

Had a lady call yesterday that had a Minnesota quarter with an extra tree. I tried to say as politely as I could that I didn't care, and suggested that she sell it on eBay.
