Why are a lot of the Hats colored over in the '69 Topps set?

Going through my almost complete '69 set, I'm noticing that a lot of the logos on the team hats worn by players have been colored over by Topps. I'm assuming this is out of some kind of copyright infringement of some sort. Can anyone shed some light on this?

<< <i>Could be a lot of laziness on Topps' part for not going out and getting updated photos of players. >>
That would be my guess.
<< <i>Could be a lot of laziness on Topps' part for not going out and getting updated photos of players. >>
as we know, Topps was notorious for using same player photos in multiple years and just framing them differently, or airbrushing emblems......but, they were good recyclers.
<< <i>1969 was the first year of baseball's expansion - Seattle, San Diego, Montreal, and Kansas City, and the A's had just moved from Kansas City to Oakland... >>
Moosedog has the right point however 1969 was not the first year of expansion. In 1961, the A.L. added two new teams (Angels & Senators) and the next year the N.L. added two as well (Mets & Houston)....Obviously when expansion happens there is a lot of player movement. In the early 1970's Topps started using airbrush techniques to take place of the blank hats....
