Not sure what's going on with the rims on the obv from the pics - some minor cuds? Otherwise I love the look, and REALLY hope it's not a counterfeit, as I'd probably buy a raw one that had skin like that!

Nice crusty old coin.... fair wear on the reverse... cuds or something on the obverse rim.... still, a keeper. Would not invest in slabbing. (but then, I don't usually recommend it) Cheers, RickO
  • The coin looks like it has XF details, with darker, but probably original surfaces. There appears to be some luster around the obverse stars. From what I remember, the 1842, along with some other Seated dollar dates, are noted for having minor, obverse rim cuds. The coin's a little dark, but I like it!

I like it overall. If those are cuds, then it just enhances the coin even more. I would enjoy owning a coin like that.
If I say something in the woods, and my wife isn't around. Am I still wrong?
  • minor obverse rim cuds, as is common for this date, VERY nice looking dollar.
  • very nice! i love the color, and depending on the amount of luster its a 40 or 45
For those that don't know, I am starting pharmacy school in the fall. image

My picture skills arn't the best.

That coin has serious crust, I like it. I was in the AU-something camp, hard to asses due to the skin.

I probably woulda guessed AU-53, thus about an NGC AU-55 holder lol.

Nice coin, and the pics aren't bad either! image
Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!
