Is it the same size as a regular dime? Or is it larger?

  • same size height wise slightly wider at rim

    We need a picture.

It may turn out to be spooned.

Sorry to disappoint. The rim is spooned. Someone tapped on the rim with the scoop end of the spoon and that is exactly what happened.

  • Why would someone do that? Is that a common practice?

Looks spooned or it was in a washing machine.

No idea why, maybe they are just bored. I went through four or rolls on Friday, and found one in one of the rolls. It must take some patents.

I have seen half dollars that were done by sailors during WWII they do the edge, removed the center (not exactly sure how they made them hollow) -- they made them into rings. I don't know the exact history, but I think they would send them home to their girl friends, or faïences.

  • thanks for the insight. the reason i did not think they were spooned is because the obverse and reverse did not seem to show any damage. well i learned something.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

It got caught in the drum of a clothes dryer or some other similar machinery and spun around awhile resulting in the edge being smoothed down. Not a mint error and not a big deal.
