Is there any reason why the 2009 Bronze First Spouse Medals should be on backorder for so long?

I am now going on two months for my backorder for 2009 bronze First Spouse medals from the Mint. Does anyone know the reason for this? It is not a big deal, but I was curious.

The first year of the program saw much longer delays than you are experiencing. I believe they do an initial run of these and sell till supplies are exhausted. They then do one more run if necessary. In late 2007 they were backordered for more than 3-4 months. When they cranked up the presses in late 2007 to meet orders it led to the infamous "Adams" Mule error run. I believe the 2nd minting of the Medals was done as quickly as possible and led to sloppy supervision that let these errors escape. Long story short.....you'll probably be waiting longer, maybe much longer till they have enough orders to justify firing up the presses. Maybe your patience will pay off with another rare Mule coin from the run!

Perhaps some organizations or individuals enjoy testing your annoyance threshold? Obviously, I'm assuming it's your staff who is really worried about this. When Mr. Longacre isn't happy no one is happy! That type of thing perhaps?
