The Elusive (Not Beat To Death) Blue Pack Ike

Just thought I would share with the board after a summer break. I very seldom run across any bluepack Ikes that are not beat
to death from the mint, or seriously poor planchet preparation. and love to see them in good shape. One of my top 5 favorite coins is Ikes.

nice! i cant see anything keeping it from gem status.
are the pics of it raw or through cellophane?
it only looks to have a tinge of haze but, acetone
could fix that and not ruin the coin i`d guess, if there is any haze..

Can you explain what a blue pack Ike dollar is?
  • Blue Pack Ikes are from the U.S. Mint and they were sold to the collectors,
They are 40% Silver Business strikes and they were sold in a cellophane package and put inside a Blue envelope.
The proof versions of the same coins were sold in hard plastic holders and put inside a brown box with red velvet inside
(Brown Box Ikes) Hope that helps

Thats a very nice 1971-S which, IMO, is very close to an MS68!

You do realize that with 1971 being the inaugural year, these coins were sent from the US Mint to the packager in $1,000 bags which is why most of them are literally beat to death?

Starting in 1972, they were packaged in tubes and shipped which accounts for the higher average grades from 1972-1976.

BTW, one of my latest 1971 Blue Pack purchases contained one which was the worst I have ever seen in a mint pack!

I have some at the TPG now that are so bad, I would not be surprised if they get Genuined.
