Masking tape help?

Hey guys.
About a year ago I bought a lot of about 3 dozen pennies at a local auction. Searching through them i saw that they all had masking tape residue on them. My guess is that someone taped them into an album...
But anyways is there a way to remove this without damaging the coins? Im deathly afraid of harming them. I hear acetone works but im too afraid to try haha.
Thanks

Soak them in acetone in a well ventilated area---preferably outdoors. Stay away from sparks or flames---highly volatile.

Perry is right. No problem with accidentally damaging the coins. Soak until the residue floats off. If you have a lot of coins, and the acetone looks to be a bit dirty, switch to fresh acetone. Lots of gunk will probably come off those pennies.

Yup, acetone should do the trick. Good luck!
