Happy International Year of Astronomy with Coins

For those of you who don't know, 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy. Lots of astronomy things are going on this year, but coin-wise, several mints from around the world are releasing some commemorative coins for the event. I've obtained four of them (below). If you're interested in learning more about any of the coins, take a look at my webpage about them.

Cool designs, I might have to pick up a few of these.
  • Thanks, folks. I like 'em, especially the Australian one, with the Austrian one as my second-favorite (it looks better in-hand). I love the Italian one's obverse, but the reverse is just too busy in my opinion.

There are a few others being released this year by other mints, including Canada, but I'm not sure how many more I'll be getting. Oh, and I probably should've mentioned that I'm an astronomy grad student which is why I'm collecting 'em image.

My daughter, who is taking Astronomy in college next semester, prefers the Italian coin, but loves them all. Is it easy to order a few?

I purchased mine from eurocollections.com . Looks like you can order directly from the Italian mint (here), and based on the current exchange rate, the eurocollections.com site is $1 more expensive. For me to order from them, it was pretty simple.

Oh, and I think my photo is better than the Italian Mint's, if I do say so myself. image
