FS: Complete 1969 OPC Baseball Set - with scans

It took me 4+ years to finally complete my raw 69 O-pee-chee set.

During that time, I was also able to build a second set in slightly lesser condition, and this is the set that I am selling. It is a very nice mid-grade set that I have broken down as follows: 32% EXMT, 56% EX, 12% VG/EX.

The Clemente is the only card in this set that has a crease - it is a very light one which goes from the bill of his helmet to the right edge. There are 22 other cards in this set that have the notorious printing wrinkle on their front surface; these include the Banks, Aparicio, Bench, McLain, and Pinson.

What does the Mantle look like?

Also, why do some of the cards have the OPC logo on the back and some don't? Im not that familiar with the OPC set from '69.

Corvette, there is no Mantle in this set.

There were only two series printed in the 69 OPC set, which is numbered to 218.

The O-Pee-Chee's do closely resemble their Topps counterparts - the OPC logo on the reverse is substituted for all cards that had the Topps logo. For cards without logos, the words "printed in Canada" are on the reverse, which is another way to tell the difference.

However, the easiest way to tell it's a 69 OPC is by the color of the card's back - OPC's are magenta, and Topps are pink.

Also, from what I've read about the production runs of early OPC cards from the '60s, they were supposedly printed in much fewer quantities (anywhere from 90% to 98% less) than the comparable output produced by Topps.

Confused?? Your scan shows 3 checklists, with cards #'ed to 327 on it, including Jackson, Carlton and F. Robinson. Furthermore, card #314 according to the checklist is the 4th series checklist. Did they give up after 2 series? Any back story on this? Did they ever print "test" sheets? Have any ever been seen?

I'm only asking because in your quest to complete the sets you've must have heard some stories or asked these questions yourself. Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can enlighten us with.

Gameused ... Thank a lot for asking this question! LOL I just spent about 25 minutes looking for an answer ... and found NOTHING! I'm real curious now!!!!

Good questions...and they've got me stumped too!

If I were to guess as to why the print run was limited on the first few years of OPCs, I can only come up with a couple of reasons: either Topps permitted OPC to only print a certain amount of cards per year, or (more likely), OPC didn't know if the product would sell well in Canada once hockey season started and stopped printing after the first few series.

Hopefully, hotmush will chime in about this - he has a website devoted to OPC's here.

Kalinefan has the #1 finest 69 OPC set - I wonder if he might have some insight on this as well.
