UGH.....

That mark has to be fresh!
I know its been in that slab for some time, but that mark by the shield kills it for me. Doesnt it look fresh compared to the rest of the coins surfaces?

If it wasnt for that mark, Id seriously consider this coin for my first N.O. coin...

An OGH, an AU50, and a New Orleans coin... image Its a sad sad day.

I guess an important part of a NO coin collection is learning when to say NO.

Not all of them are pretty in my opinion; it makes it more interesting seeking out the nice ones.
  • LOL, very true.

Thats part of the reason for not yet having a single piece in this collection. I wont buy just to buy. Theres some great N.O. material out there right now, but in higher grades.

Do you mean on the obverse near Ms. Liberty's right knee? If so, then I am of the opinion that it may very well simply be the way the light is catching it in the image.

I agree with TomB. If you otherwise like the coin, this might be worth a call to ask a Heritage person about the alleged mark. You can do that, right? They field questions about the goods, I suspect.
  • If the price is right I think go for it...I like it...almost enough to say thanks IM bidding...image

    I agree with Tom.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • I think you guys are right... I thought it was a big hit and maybe its just the lighting...

image My bad... Otherwise, that coin seems nice.

p.s. that said, there are other issues with this coin which would stop me from purchasing it.

Agreed. I shoot a lot of coin pix and this is quite common and not necessarily jolting.

See the light reflected on Liberty's thighs and between her breasts? Light came from 12:00 and picked up the nick. Another angle probably would have downplayed it.

Still, it's a hit and may bother you nonetheless.

  • Jamie, Are you sure its not the lighting that mark is from? I personaly like the coin and if you can get it at a good price, I say go for it. But what do I know.
