Plastic for maximum sale potential.........

As many of you know, I collect coins with the old Anacs photo certificates. Recently I've toyed around with submitting my collection to PCGS to have graded. Not so much for the fact that I need the coins in plastic, but more to do with the economy and no job being safe. I think the coins would be much easier to sell and sell for more especially on the venue I would most likely use, Ebay. Right now, I still have a job, and can afford to have the coins slabbed, but if 6 months down the road, I lost my job, it would be diffucult to justify the added expense of grading. Of course I would hate to sell my collection, but if it meant making a few more mortgage payments then that's the priority.
Have any of you that have a fairly valuable raw collection, thought about the same thing?

If push came to shove I'd try selling them on the BST first...it seems that the photo certs themselves add value that some people around here might be willing to pay for.
<< <i>Wow, it would be a shame to lose all those old photo certificates!

I would still keep the phot certificates with the coins, only they would now be in PCGS plastic as well. Kind of like two levels of grading. It would be interesting also, to see how the coins faired with the current grading standards compared to those of 25 to 30 years ago.
......the only problem that MAY arise at the time you want to sell is......................EVERYONE NOW IS LOOKING FOR SLABBED AND CAC STICKERS!!!!
The question should be asked of fairly valuable raw coins.
Cutting hairs probably, but you have to ask yourself if the coins themselves are valuable enough to justify the grading costs.
If so, then yes, I have done that with quite a few of my raw coins.
Most have come back at a lesser grade than I thought they would.
I always wondered though, if you were just looking at the potential profit, if sending coins to another (top tier) TPG to get a higher grade would offset the lower price you get for them.
In other words, would a MS66 Walker in (NGC/ANACS/other) sell for more than a MS65 in PCGS?
Just some thoughts, with all due respect for PCGS (only TPG I collect by the way).

Trust what? The certificates?

Yep...too easy to counterfeit today
No, because my priorities are to have a large nest egg rather than a coin collection which represents a sizable part of my savings. I suggest you stop buying coins and increase your cash savings; otherwise, you might end up being forced to sell into a falling market.

Sounds like a good idea. No risk, better if you ever decide to sell.
Interesting to see how the grades compare.
<< <i>They'll sell better in PCGS plastic obviously, but I wouldn't bother sending them in until you're sure you're gonna need to sell. >>
Also worth checking the EBay rules. Not sure if the old photo certificate ANACS slabs can be advertised by their assigned grade in the listings so if your selling venue is EBay that may require reslabbing in order to be able to maximize their sellability.
