Somewhat OT: Advice on purchasing an "in-ground" basketball hoop system

Hi,

Looking to get an in-ground (i.e. cement mounted) basketball hoop system, preferably in the $500 range.

Anyone have one they like or don't like, or any advice on what to look for?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Best bet is to find one you like on somebody's property
and chat them up about who built it.

Concrete and steel and labor are still pricey, even in this depression.
$500 prolly will not get you what you want, unless you have equipment
    and skills.

There are some packages on the internet, but the freight is steep
and you have to get a local contractor to do the dig and pour.

If you live in an HOA prison, you might want to check with the fascists
before you get started with the project. I have seen cases where
the psychos make folks undo projects because no permission was
    applied for.

We have Rhino hoops in our yard and really like them. I can't remember how much they cost as it was part of a much larger package. The Rhino sport court flooring SUCKED and we had it ripped out and got our money back. However, we like their baskets a lot. Adjustable, solid, etc.... Had them 5 years. Rhino Courts

I went with Goalrilla, and have been very happy with it. You pour the pad with a supplied anchor system, and simply bolt the hoop to that. In the event you have to move, you simply have to unbolt it to move it. It is very stable and heavy duty as well.

We also have Goalrilla, but unless you plan on installing it yourself, it will run you much more. The system which included 54" backboard, pole, pole pad, rebounding net (hangs from bottom of backboard and can be pulled out for automatic ball return), and halogen light kit (mounted from top the backboard and hooks up to standard extension cord from the garage) ran around $600 as a package. The hoop extends from 7.5' to 10' with a simple crank. Installation was another $400-$500. We did the whole thing thru Dick's Sporting Goods. We also got 12 month interest free financing, as well as signed up for the the Dicks Rewards Card which gave us back a $100 gift card in the mail a month later. I then got a local paint striper to put down a key and three point line in "handicap" blue. The whole thing looks absolutely awesome, and it is the neighborhood park!

Those Gorilla always looked nice at Dicks. I just demoed the hoop that cam with my house since the support post was resuted out at the top and borderline unsafe if anyone attempted a monster dunk.

If you are doing it your self I would go with a galvanized support pole or something with a powdercoat. If the pole is simply painted, it will peel and rust.

I am probably going to end up tearing out a tree, pouring a pad to extend my court to high school 3 point dimensions all around. I was a basketball junkie growing up and now that I have a little daughter and another on the way, I figure I will get them started as well on their journey to the pros (J/K).

    great thread!

I just noticed that our pole literally has rust holes in it. I have the hoop down a bit lower for the boy and told him not to grab the net or anything or it might crash down on him.

might have to get one next spring.

We do an annual basketball party in our backyard. We have a mini-full Court. Two baskets but the court is only 25 x 60. Here's a picture from last year. We do 3 on 3 full court.
