BOY!! I wish my mailman gave away all of his vintage unopened material and high

grade HOFers, I just get bills image

Very tasty items... that Mantle is dead on!

I really like the 78 cellos too...

    OK it all rocks!! image
  • I wish my mailman would bring stuff like that!
  • A few people asked about the light in the picture...

It magnifies up to 30x's and the bulbs can be replaced if you wish to so you can insert a black light bulb to help detect coloring on a card or any other type of alteration.
It works great to look at cards before submiting them. I usually turn off all the lights in the room and only use the light that is on the lamp as it really brings out the card and allows you to focus on everything.

While PSA uses 10x's magnification, I like to look deeper at the card to find flaws.

It can be found at hobby lobby..

Thinking the same thing - centering is good enough for a .5 bump - it's a $2000 price difference if it does.
  • Nice stuff, I wonder how many PSA 10's are in there.... Nice Mick too, very nice card!

I love that 1976 unopened box! It takes me back to the first year I ever bought cards as a kid. My first packs were bought at a Drug Fair in PA. I also love the box itself because it has Brooks Robinson, my childhood hero, on the box top - they just reversed the photo negative to make him look like he is hitting left handed, even though he batted righty.

I just decided - I have to get one of those 1976 empty boxes, and an unopened pack from that year as well for my collection.

Let me know if anyone has either/both they are interested in selling!

    Thanks,
    Rich

The oldest wax in my collection is 76T box - the oldest rack I have is 79T - the oldest vending case I have is 79T.

My take is that they're more prized unopened.

I'm with Felicia on this one - tho I do understand people's view on being tempted! image

    Also, sweet 56T Mick!

I agree that the '56 Mantle looks like a strong 8.5 candidate assuming the corners are solid. Nice pickup!
  • RonBurgundyRonBurgundy Posts: 5,491 ✭✭✭
Felicia - don't you dare bust those '75 racks! If you do, please let me know so I can come and rescue some of them. image

Also, LOVE the '56 Mantle but not sure it would 8.5 due to T/B centering. It's worth a look, though.

You know, you're right. I didn't really look closely at the right side of the card and his uniform makes the centering less obvious.

My primitive skills have the T/B centering on the 1956 Mantle at 60/40, which by PSA's standards is good enough for a 9, so it would not be the centering that held it back from a possible 8.5

Unfortunately I had a 1961 and 1969 Aaron that failed to bump to 8.5 with a note stating top to bottom centering prevented the upgrade. I measure both to be exactly 60-40.

I didnt say it would, just that it was within the standards.

And my mailman brought me my Visa bill with all the charges my wife and my mother-in-law ran up while in London a few weeks ago. I guess it's true when they say you're going to pay one way or another. 10 days of silence around the house wasn't cheap!!!

Here's hoping I can level the playing field at the National. Too bad I can send my wife the bill... image
