1921-D VAM-1I Die Break N United Discovered by Michael S. Fey, Ph.D., October 1999 (Desirability: ) IV 1 D2a (Die Break N) (189) I-3 R-7 Reverse D2a - Die chip at top left of N of UNITED. The die break on the VAM-1I caused a small chunk of metal to fall from the die at the top left of the N in UNITED. The raised metal on coins struck from the broken die is very visible for easy attribution even without a magnifier.
