IF the coin has not been doctored, I would guess it's at least MS64RB.

Nothing rude about it. Just a humorous attempt to point out that asking for a grade opinion on just the obverse of a coin in an image, where the coin measures no bigger than 200 pixels (and is overexposed), is kind of pointless.
  • Yup, like others have said you definitely need bigger/better pics and a reverse if you'd like a grade opinion.

If this is the sellers picture and it's a good price go for it.

    this was the better reply.
that said I would have thought with all the "expert's" here an opinion could have been givin in light of the small pic.

Reason I was asking is that it is a coin I recently sold on ebay. The buyer got it yesterday and said the coin is crap. It used to grade PCGS MS64 Red. I cracked it out years ago and put it in my dansco album. I just wanted some support(one person agreed to the numerical grade) to make me feel better in case I lose my argument. The photo I used is the one I posted for the auction. I know it isnt the best for grading, but it is all I have now that I dont have the coin in hand. The buyer is most upset I think because of the spots. I can see them clearly on the shoulders. Thanks for the comments.

Well the terms of your auction are clear - "No returns." And your opinion of the grade is exactly that - your opinion.

But, I think you might find the audience here somewhat hostile having listed the coin as, "1933 D Gem BU Red Lincoln Cent" while not revealing that you cracked it out of a PCGS MS 64RD and then stored it in an album for an unknown amount of time.

While I personally would never bid on one of your auctions with no return policy, I certainly don't fault you for your opinion of the coin. I've had plenty of coins I considered Gem which were returned in 64 plastic by a TPG.

I thought the coin was gem. But that was just my opinion and it got graded a 64 due to the spots. I dont know what the buyer will say. I sent the original photos of the coin still in its holder.

Looks unc, might be cleaned or recolored. No way to tell from the pic provided.

Edited: I've read all the posts now...If you don't take the return you'll get a negative. If the neg is worth it to you, stand tough.

I dont know how this will turn out. Usually, if someone is unhappy with my auctions I accept returns even though it says I dont on the auction. I havent heard back from the buyer in about 24 hours since my reply. My point with him is that the coin wasnt "junk" as he put it. That was the whole reason I posted pics of the coin on this forum to let more people have a look at it and get their opinion. I dont like negative feedback, but if the guy hadnt been so rude about it I might have said sure send it back without a question.

Do you have the slab insert? How much did it sell for?

Really hard to tell much from those pictures...other than they make the coin look polished.

Maybe better pics for your auctions is the answer?

With all due respect, you shouldn't be having an "argument" with the customer over this in the first place. I understand that your buyer may have been rude, but keep in mind this is not uncommon for an unhappy buyer to express outrage, at least initially. People are often irrationally hostile when reacting to their first emotion, so you have to at least give him or her the benefit of the doubt.

Even if you completely disagree with the buyer's gripe, the bottom line is you have an unhappy customer, and as a business person, it's in your best interest to try and resolve it as peacefully as possible.
The best thing you could have done to diffuse the situation would be to just say something like "I apologize that this coin did not meet your satisfaction; please understand it was not my intention to misrepresent this coin in any way, and I will be happy to do as best as I can to help remedy this issue" and then offer some viable options (return, partial refund, etc.). If you are polite, an aggressive buyer like yours will almost invariably "cool down" in time and become willing to work with you in finding a peaceful resolution.
