Back in The Saddle!!

Hey everyone, image

I took a break from collecting for the last couple of years after I moved to a new house. The wife finally gave me the go ahead on my new "man cave" and I'm getting all my sets organized again. I apologize to those who have emailed me regarding buying/selling cards. I have not been very good at returning those emails.

So catch me up on the status of the hobby now! What’s the market like right now? Prices up or down? I see MOSH got in some trouble and dumped his sets. Glad I sold him my 74 Football set before all that happened. I also noticed the half point system with PSA. How is that half point affecting prices? 8.5 bringing a lot more than an 8? eBay still the go-to place to buy and sell or are there other venues to buy/sell/trade now?

Prices have been decreasing for a while. Good time to buy, not to sell. Just my opinion.

Welcome back. Although I'm a relatively new collector, I've been very active in the market for the last 1.5 years. PSA's half-point grading system is an industry improvement in my opinion. PSA 8.5s sell for appreciably more than PSA 8s, and 8.5s bring a price closer to a PSA 8 than a PSA 9. SGC has better developed it's Set Registry, yet it's still dwarfed by PSA's, hence the latter grader's cards still typically bring the price premium.

Market prices are down, but not much, as many cards still bring 90% or more of "pre-recession" values, so it appears a good time to buy more than sell.

What kind of cards do you collect, Ken? Feel free to add a link to your registry sets.

That statement is way too generalized, and in my opinion, the only way it makes sense to me is if a rare instance like this happened:

    PSA 8 = $250
    PSA 8.5 = $850
    PSA 9 = $2,500

Before the .5 grading came to be, high end 8s always sold for a premium, and still do whether they are still in that 8 holder, or have been bumped to an 8.5 holder.
