Letitia Tyler Proof coin - out of capsule and sliding around inside the box just like with the UHRs.

anyone else have this happen to them?

================================================

as a side note, it didn't happen to me. but it did in a way.

The mint sent my order to someone else and that someone else's order to me. His, the one's I got, were fine and mine, the one's he got, had one of one sliding around loose as above.

Just got them today and am just starting to fix this one.

they placed his label on my box and vice versa.

we talked on the phone and the label thing is an ooops we both can live with, but even though he sent his, my order, back he was still upset by the loose coin.

On a positive note, if you've continued reading this far, I would say this one is noticeably better looking in hand than in the pictures.

How much? eh... you'll have to find one to look at and decide for yourself.

With their standard self-opening capsules... (yes, I have experienced that too)

To think they have an Easy Opening capsule option for the Braille commemorative coin...

    It's absurd.

at some point faxing Moy's office would be a good idea.
That time might be now if more are still having the problem with new releases.

  • This reminds me of the 08 ASE's I bought last year. All 4 boxes were opened and the coins luckily were still in the capsules but not in the boxes. Heard that this had happened to a lot of folks here on those 08's.

Just about every spouse coin i've ordered had the capsule loose in the box, but never had the coin out of the capsule (had a cracked capsule once though that I returned)!!! might need to talk to your fed ex delivery person as they may be tossing it around or otherwise mishandling it???

I've never understood what's up with those capsules.

I've had one come in the mail open and rattling around, on the other hand, there have been a few times when I nearly needed to use dynamite to get into one that I wanted to open.

How the hell do they perfect that?

In some cases it is a matter of the impression where the capsuled held coin is set in. When the impression is "tapered" with the lower portion of the impression being made smaller it acts as a vise on the lower half of the capsule. Hence when in transit if the package is dropped or receives a hit of some significance, the tightly held lower half of the impression firmly holds the lower half of the capsule in place, the coin then hits against and pops open the upper portion of the capsule which is not so firmly held. This happened with the a number of the Buffalo four coin sets with the half ounce coin.

It can also be perceived as the upper half of the impression is also cut too large and falls to hold the capsule. The capsules themselves seem uniform in manufacture but it is possible that some upper portions of the capsules are just a tad smaller creating the same effect.

Does the Mint need more transparency when it comes to their capsules?
