"government is not reason, it is not eloquence-it is a force! like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action." George Washington
There is nothing wrong with the strike of this coin. They all come this way because there is very little relief on either side and the obverse had precious little fine detail added to the design. The lighting in the image makes for very little contrast in the fields so I do not see the expected hairlines from circulation, which might make me think higher AU, but overall it has the feel of an AU53/55 coin.
I have a 32-D which looks like the one you have pictured. It was purchased in a NGC ms-61 holder which I never thought it was a ms-61. I paid AU money and was satisfied with the purchase. I cracked it out and put in my Dansco album and if I ever resubmit it I would expect an AU-55 to an AU-58.
I sort of agree with the 50-55 grades BUT most 32-D that I see in holders seem higher than I would grade them so it might get graded 58 or even better.
I've seen many that look 58 to me in low unc grade holders. Either I can't grade them or they're graded differently than most quarters.

The muted luster insures this coin is not MS, the slight circulation marks (hairlines) do not show up well in this photo, or much in hand.

........i like it and would give it a 58
The name is LEE!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
The owner has the advantage here, obviously - because coin in hand ...
but FROM THESE PIX I see no indication of anything less than 58.
I stress - FROM THESE PIX!

Try to grade these HONESTLY and you'll see what I mean.

the more I'm coming to agree with
your assessment of your coin.
I'm starting to think 55 is right.
Afterall, you DO have the best seat
in the House.
Can we see it in it's natural, "silver"
look?
Thanx!
<< <i>For those in the weak strike camp show me a nicely struck 32 D. For those in the AU 58 camp show me another AU 58 QTR. >>
perhaps this one has a better strike although it has more wear.
