I love this place and the vast info one can find here, but...

When someone doesnt agree with what you say or do, does it really need to turn to name calling?

This is suppose to be a hobby and a fun one at that. Why stoop to such a childish level and call some one with differing opinions names?
This is not jr high or high school.

This place is one of the best sources for coin info and to act this way really seems beneath us all.

When people are blunt and opinionated, they are likely to rub some people the wrong way. Also, some people around here just like to call other people names.

In my experience, however, it is how one delivers opinions (i.e. word choice) that often is the difference between being called names and being agreed with.

My advice: Try to think about how you are conveying your message and how other people (who don't know you or your interpersonal "style") will interpret things...particularly when you are disagreeing with them. And don't forget to throw in a few emoticons to help. image

It's easy to take something the wrong way especially when whom you
are responding to didn't take care not to be insulting and then things can
    easily escalate.

Most of the worst problems are simple misunderstanding that get out of
    control.

If you really must insult someone try to insult him a little less than you be-
    lieve he insulted you.

    <<Over 1,500 posts in only four months>>

Post count means nothing. All that means is I either A: like to post here and have no problem saying whats on my mind. & B: I have time to post, maybe more so than some others here.
They have no bearing on anything related to coins or numismatics as a whole.
Is there a daily amount one can post here?
I dont remember reading that in the TOS...

I stand fully behind the OP on his message. Treat each other as you wish to be treated....plain and simple.

Act grown up here....a little bit of humor and satire is just fine...Heaven knows I do this myself from time to time, but it is all out in the open and meant in a nice way.

Stop playing Judge Dredd with those who have good intentions. Save the harsh words, nasty comments and judgements for those who deserve that kind of reply for if they wish to spread ill will and stir discontent within this group of Gentlemen...they are posting on the wrong forum. To those who wish to be disruptive, start arguments and post in a poorly written ugly manner..............thats what Yahoo Finance Forums are all about. Go pick a stock, any stock, it dosent matter....and post to your hearts content there, among others who thrive on written senseless conflict.

    just my opinion.....

Oh! KentuckyJ, here's another not-so-famous French quote, but one I think you and your cousin will love!: "He who looks behind the bedroom door, is one who stood there before!"

I personally think that given the current "tone" of the thread will bring different meanings to already posted responses and therefore initiat furture responses along the negative line until the thread eventually self destructs.

I find myself guilty of misinterpreting and even mis-reading which I guess is the nature of the beast.

Typed out communication is one of the most difficult to master in that its difficult for a lot of folks to use the correct pronunciation marks so that their thread is mentally enunciated correctly.

As for the name calling, my advice is to avoid that at all costs since nothing will get a thread nuked quicker.

  • You remind me very very much of someone who used to be here - Ahooka. The quantity of posts, the tone, the questions, the occasional stirring of the pot. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, I kinda liked Adam.

Just watch your tone when you post, and if someone gets confrontational, ignore it rather than dwelling on it and posting more about it. Thick skin goes a long way here. Some of your posts are pretty good so my best advice is just to be like Switzerland - neutral!

Edited - just saw I hit 1200 posts - I didn't do a giveaway at 1000 so may have to think of something quick!

  • I agree 100% to the original post.

The name calling and starting threads to say why they don't want people to talk to them is worthless blather.

Coin collecting is a great hobby, and if coin collectors can't get along on a pcgs message board, it makes the site less valuable.

I know I could post a picture of an obscure US coin on pcgs and ask for a grade, an overall opinion, value assessment, authenticity opinion & receive priceless feedback.

It just takes one person to ruin a conversation or make someone not want to come back to the boards. There is enough worries in life. image
