Post some of you poor photo scores from Ebay....

If you have the sellers photo that would be interesting as well.

Here is one. I paid somewhere around 15 or 18 dollars for this a few years back. The seller had this photo only and no photo of the reverse. NT/AT? Probably wouldn't slab, but very lusterous and mark free.

Seller's photo.

  • I dont have a photo just yet , but probably the best deal i ever got was on a seated dime , out of focus fuzzy picture should have raised red flags but i kept getting drawn back to it.
In the end i wondered why if it were a poor condition coin would the seller have it in an air tite..that was part of my thinking , it bothered me there was no picture of the reverse as well.
I took the gamble and won the coin for well under $10 , it turned out to be AU in the 50's , a pretty high grade and was also a CC mint coin.Ive had other good snags but that was my best i think.

My experience is, if the coin is in an NGC or PCGS holder with a poor photo, you may get an ok deal, but people tend to trust plastic. When raw however, the rewards are typically much greater, but of course the risk is also.

I bought this one when I was working on my type set and placing a lot of trust into numbers on plastic. This was the seller's only pic so I threw in a low ball best offer and it was accepted:

Ended up selling it for close to $1000 profit and it's now listed on eBay by a dealer for over twice what I paid last year, but with a similarly poor photo.

I don't have the seller's original photos, but suffice to say they were about 20 pixels in size:

This coin, my avatar, was graded MS 65 by PCGS and bought for roughly AU money.

That looks nice Mike. I'm a bit surprised it didn't get a PL designation.

I mostly haven't saved the original pics from sellers, but this is one that I still have (still have the picture, the coin was sold last year):

Thanks for the kind words. image

FWIW, PCGS doesn't label gold dollars with the PL designation, but if they did, I agree this one deserves it (probably more than the 65 grade, to be completely candid in my opinion).

    Take care...Mike

Guess I don't have any real e-bay deals. I do have some interesting before and after pics from Teletrade and Heritage.

Here is another score of mine. It was listed as an UNC with very poor photos. I took a chance and bid 20 bucks on it. This is what I recieved.
