Lincoln Collectors - You Won't believe this on eBay

For all you Lincoln Collectors....You gotta see this on eBay
Item#220449264018
It is a 1922D Lincoln certified by ANACS and says right on the label Net Grade 60 as Cleaned.
The seller describes it, "So it grades higher but is downgraded because of cleaning. Looks uncirculated full red. Estimated book value $550." To top it off the opening ask is $400.
I got the best laugh of today.
Take a look in the next few hours at this 'gem'.
Who is this seller????

  • My take on this auction...

<<1922 D Lincoln Cent in MS 60. It is graded by ANACS. It is graded as cleaned. So it grades higher but it is down graded because of cleaning. It looks uncirculated with full red. Your chance to pick up a nice looking coin. Estimated book value is $550.>>

1: Is an est value allowed in the description? If not, ebay should pull it.
2: Just because it is cleaned, it grades higher but lowered due to the cleaning? Since when? If its a 60, its a 60, regardless of the cleaning.
3: Full Red? Yea, after the cleaning.
4: Id hope it looks Unc. Its a 60. Isnt 60 Unc?
5: Why is this seller allowed to not provide the pictures ebay has said are a must? Front and back slab shots?

This type of seller should have his auction pulled until he can figure out how to list his cleaned cents the right way like everyone else is suppose to.

This is one of the many reasons I dont buy or sell on ebay. Id rather pay abit more and not get a potential rip, and buy from a trusted source.

Actually, I think saying the grade was lowered due to a cleaning is an accurate description of how net grading works.
  • I was told by a member of ANACS management that the highest they will grade any cleaned or damaged coin is MS60 I had a coin they said would be MS66 but due to environmental damage they grade all MS coins MS60

I can't comment much on lincolns, but my understanding of net grading and ANACS is exactly the above. If I had an ms65 morgan, cleaned it, then sent it in, it would likely get the ms60 details, cleaned grade. I could be wrong, but I also think this is how net grading works. Anyone ever seen ANACS give above ms60 details on a cleaned coin noted on the holder?
Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

MS60 Details is the highest grade a problem coin will get from the new ANACS. The coin may look much nicer than a regular MS60 or higher coin, but ANACS will only give the MS60 Details grade. This leads some people to assume that they might give out MS63 Details or so grades. This is not so.

Net grading is different and no longer used at ANACS. The old ANACS would grade a coin "UNC Details Cleaned NET AU50". The same coin now gets "MS60 Details Cleaned".

I had a beautiful high grade Seated Quarter that was bright from a dip.
I asked for an opinion on grade from the guy at the ANACS table and he told me it would be netted to MS63.
This was 3 or 4 years ago when ANACS still gave free advise at shows.
